- St. Mary’s garden clean-up and top dressing is complete. Volunteers from Crossroads finished the spring cleaning and top dressed the garden beds for the growing season. We are scheduled to plant cool season crops on April 11.
- Our Place Garden grading and water trenching is complete! This was more complicated than it sounds. To comply with the engineering plans tied to our land use contract, we had to raise the 2.6-acre garden by three feet. We filled and graded the site for nearly two weeks.
- Our Place raised garden beds are being installed. We’ve had volunteers from the Our Place Campus and the larger community at the garden every weekend building raised beds. The raised beds are the first growing spaces installed at the Our Place Garden and will produce some of our earliest crops each year.
- We’re getting electricity, storage, and more growing space. Over the next couple months, we are working to bring power to the garden, building a tool shed, and developing our crop fields.

Our Place Garden Groundbreaking |
Together with Washoe County, we held the official Our Place Garden groundbreaking ceremony on April 6, 2022. Thank you to everyone who came out, especially the ladies from Crossroads and Our Place who helped us get a few more plants in the ground. The Our Place Garden is a true community effort, and we could not develop this space without your continued support. We want to thank commissioners Vaughn Hartung and Alexis Hill as well as Washoe County Human Services Director, Amber Howell, for their supportive remarks. If you were not able to join us last week, you can find a KOLO News clip here and read about the groundbreaking here. |

April is volunteer appreciation month, and we want to thank everyone who has volunteered time at the Our Place and St. Mary’s gardens. Over the past three weeks alone, we’ve had over 100 volunteer hours in the gardens. Our gardens are about more than fresh food. Our gardens are spaces for growing community, connection, hope, and sustainability. We could not make this happen without the volunteers that generously give their time to our community in support of the Soulful Seeds mission. If you want to get involved, join our volunteer team today. We accept individuals, groups, and corporate teams, and we have upcoming needs for volunteer teams with construction experience. |

Featured Community Partner: Western Nevada Supply |
Western Nevada Supply has made a lasting impression on the Northern Nevada community for decades, and they’re at it again! Last month, Western Nevada Supply generously donated irrigation supplies that accounted for 33% of the total materials needed for the Our Place Garden. We want to thank the Blue Team for their continued support of this project and our community. |
