August 2024

Welcome to the 24/25 season at Gunnamatta SLSC !

Dear Gunn Member,

Welcome to the new 2024 and 2025 season for Gunnamatta SLSC, our new committee have had an initial kick off meeting to start planning and commenced our monthly meetings to discuss our goals for the year.

Within this edition of GUNN NEWS we have included our member training dates, special patrol events and our patrolling season commences on the 9th November 2024. This season we are focussing on having the website as our main source of information, an updated calendar outlining social events, patrols and the Nipper program will be released in the coming week.

We wish to thank our retiring members of the committee for their time and dedication over the past years being David Stogdale, Sarah Cattapan, Jacob DePavia and Gian Paul Perpoli.  For those that were unable to attend the AGM and Awards Night we had a great turn out with over 140 members and families enjoying a fun night.

We are also very proud of the fact that Gunnamatta SLSC has a new Life Member elected to the esteemed group of members, the election of a Life Member is an achievement that is not taken lightly and requires extensive input by an individual in their support of Gunnamatta SLSC.  With this in mind the club elected and approved Jill Douglas as a Life Member.  A well-deserved nomination that we are all so lucky in having Jill as one of our own.

The latest Annual Report is currently located under News on our Gunnamatta SLSC Website, the Annual Report outlines our portfolio reports, member patrolling and awards results for the season and the patrol stats on rescues and attendances.

2024/2025 COMMITTEE

Our newly elected committee is detailed below and we encourage our members to reach out to the committee, members are welcome to attend our monthly meetings please contact our secretary for meeting dates. Additionally to the elected committee roles we wish to recognise our members that are in supporting roles within the committee with Melissa Malone taking on the Club Registrar position and Paul Wilson for providing his extensive experience in IT Infrastructure.

MANDATORY WORKING WITH CHILDRENS CHECKS

WWC Checks are now required for ALL Gunnamatta SLSC Members over 18 years of age

Changes to Child Protection laws, Life Saving Victoria (LSV) and SLSA Policies require all Members of a Lifesaving Club aged 18 years and over to have a valid WWCC. This means that all adult, parent and guardian members attending the club and / or interacting with children in any club activity must hold a current WWCC. The policy extends to all categories of membership.

Under the recent and updated LSV Policy there are no exceptions to the WWCC requirement.

Please note that where you have an employment related WWCC this will need to be updated to include Gunnamatta SLSC as an interested party, so that we receive all appropriate notifications and expiry information.

This is a mandatory requirement of your membership so as to align with LSV Policies.
