Passover pals, ode to Ottawa, 2020 refunds, and a sweet Mother’s Day reaction. Hi everyone! I’m on vacation for the next few days but that doesn’t mean I’m skipping a week! I scheduled this ahead of time. It’s been a goal of mine for the past several weeks to compile everything from Passover into one landing page on my site and it is live! It could still use some finishing touches, but see it here. My Passover project (creating a Haggadah and hosting a Seder) introduced me to two talented, creative people, rapper Kosha Dilz and rapper/comedian Hila. So I drew them! I’ve been wanting to create an Etsy product based on specific cities, and a Seder attendee helped me get there! I started with Ottawa. I also have the video version of last month’s 2020 refund doodle right on time and connected with people on Reddit over Mother’s Day. Enjoy! If you're new to Danielle in Doodles, welcome! I publish this newsletter of my latest doodles every Sunday, and you can see archives here. |

Kosha Dilz embraced Passover this year with a Moses costume that he continues to wear to this day — freestyling around the city and leading conversations about Judaism. I brought him a Haggadah and attended one of his Seders. I drew him in the costume with color inspiration from his latest album art (see below). How’d I do? |

Hila (aka on Instagram as Hila the Kila) joined Kosha on Passover as Pharaoh, but recently she’s been going around the city dressed as the Earth rapping about sustainability, plants, compost, and more. I’m a huge fan! And, do you like the background? It's watercolor! I think it gives digital art a softer look. |

I’ve produced events at work, and after, we always have to do a wrap-up of content and feedback, etc. I knew I needed to do it for Passover but dragged my feet because wasn’t creating a Haggadah enough?! But, I finally did it. It has images, the videos, feedback, and the products. See it here! |

If you saw last week’s doodle, you know my sister, Alexa, lives in Ottawa (for now). At my Passover Seder, the winner of the trivia game (which replaced finding the Afikomen/Matzah) happens to also be from Ottawa. She said she’d like a doodle representing Ottawa or Judaism. So, I made the doodle below. Then I thought it would work for my sister and her boyfriend, so they got a version! Do you think other people would like to be “in Ottawa”? I’m considering adding it to my Etsy shop with a customizable option. The magic of digital art! |

Refund advice just in time for Tax Day! |
|
|
In honor of tax day, I made a doodle in April about the real 2020 refunds we deserve! Of course, I started the doodle before I actually started my taxes, but everything was completed on time, IRS! See the full doodle here. |

Mother’s Day doodle reaction |
|
|
Last week for Mother’s Day, I shared a heartfelt doodle recognizing the women (and more) in my life that fill the void of not having my mom all year long. I shared this on Reddit and wanted to share some nice responses from my post. “This is the only Mother’s Day related thing I’ve seen that cheered me up. Definitely relate to ‘sometimes Dad’ bc my relationship with dad is kinda rocky but we do try.” “ - And friends’ mothers! - Sister-in-Law’s - Sister-in-Law’s moms - Nieces that are mothers” I included my dad because he now often takes on takes on responsibilities that would have gone to my mom first — like taking us shopping, editing this newsletter, remembering to get my Grandma cards, and more. Something I love about creating doodles is that everyone sees something different in them and interprets them in their own way – sometimes in ways I didn’t intend or think of. Connecting with people is a privilege and I’m happy that I can spark conversation, discussion, feeling, comfort, humor, and more. |

Speaking of Dad, he is actually a better artist than I am. And he’s sketching again. Maybe next week I’ll share some of the portraits he’s been working on! And I should be ready to put two business card designs up for a vote. See you next week. Hopefully, I’ll be sun-kissed and not sunburnt! |
