Joyce & Yeats “The supreme question about a work of art is out of how deep a life does it spring.” ― James Joyce, Ulysses On June 14, I performed with vocalist and Executive Director of the Washington Chorus, Stephen Beaudoin, at the Washington DC residence of the Irish Ambassador to the United States for a special Bloomsday and Yeats celebration. Readings and musical performances were presented on the outdoor patio overlooking a lovely garden and seated guests. We performed arrangements of Mozart's "La ci darem la mano" and Molloy's "Love's Old Sweet Song," two of the many musical references in Ulysses. |

Imagine Hagerstown The Imagine Hagerstown arts festival in June featured a wide variety of performers from several arts disciplines including music, dance, storytelling, poetry, circus arts, magic and fashion. Events ranged from an upcycled fashion show using items from Horizon Goodwill to a family circus and salsa dance lessons. I performed in duet with Danny Webber for the Best of the Hub City showcase which also featured gypsy jazz, Pop/R&B and ballet. The offerings were very diverse and you can learn more about the festival online at ImagineHagerstown.org. |

Operas It was wonderful to have the opportunity to perform for two opera productions this summer. Hub Opera Ensemble staged Don Pasquale by Donizetti in June (Dr. Andrew Rosenfeld, conductor) and I performed with Wolf Trap Opera at the Filene Center for their August production of Rossini's Barber of Seville which was conducted by Lidiya Yankovskaya. The weather was beautiful for performing in this outdoor venue and I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to work with such exceptional musicians and staff. It was a pleasant surprise to read a mention of the guitar in this review of the Wolf Trap production. | | |

HCC & CVSM This year, I'm celebrating my 15th anniversary of teaching at Hagerstown Community College. I welcome new classical guitar students for private lessons as well as ensemble participants. Guitar Ensemble will meet Thursday mornings at 10am through the fall semester and there is room for more players. Register for MUS 116-M01 Guitar Ensemble through the college for credit or audit. In addition to lessons in Hagerstown, MD, I teach in Chambersburg, PA one day per week at Cumberland Valley School of Music. A Quiet Night, A Little Guitar & A New Recording I hope you will enjoy this video of a work written by my friend, Michael DeLalla. Titled "A Quiet Night on Roaring Fork," the piece was inspired by an evening walk with his wife along the Roaring Fork River in Colorado. In this performance, I am playing on a 2019 Torres-model guitar built by Luis Fernández de Córdoba, a luthier based in Alexandria, Virginia. It has a smaller body, shorter scale length and fan bracing, and it features a tornavoz that assists with projection. Please contact Luis if you have questions or would like to inquire about this guitar. I am planning to include this composition on a new CD, the preparation and recording of which I hope to work on this fall and winter. I have not yet determined if I will start a crowdsourcing campaign or whether the CD will be released both physically and digitally, but I am planning to enjoy playing beautiful pieces such as this. |
