Message from the Host It is our privilege and pleasure to host the SPUS 2019 meeting in Newport, Rhode Island in October. Newport, located on the southern part of Aquidneck Island, is a town with a rich history. It was an important port during colonial days and its safe harbor plus easy access to the open Atlantic made it attractive to fishermen, yachtsmen, and the US Navy. For many years, the America’s Cup races were held here. And in the early 20th century, it was the summer “playground” where the rich and famous built summer “cottages”. Now, thousands of tourists come to Newport each year to enjoy all it has to offer. We look forward to sharing its history and beauty with you. - Tony and Barbara - |
