This month we are talking about SELF AWARENESS and SELF MANAGMENT! How to become aware? Self-awareness is the foundation of effective leadership. When you are self-aware, you are more conscious of your strengths, weaknesses, and limitations. You are more in tune with your emotions and how they impact your decisions and actions. Self-awareness also allows you to be more authentic and genuine in your interactions with others, which can help you build stronger relationships. According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of Self-Awareness is, “an awareness of one's own personality or individuality” and, Self-Management is, “the management of one’s own care or well-being”. Self-management and self-awareness go hand in hand and are two important parts of emotional intelligence and personal and professional success. When you have a deeper understanding of your whole self, you can become aware of how you impact others and you’re able to adjust your emotions accordingly. Self-awareness and self-management are skills that we develop with time and the right tools. |

Self Awareness Tips & Tricks Here are some tips and tricks for increasing self-awareness: Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment and fully engaged in what you are doing. By focusing on the present moment, you can become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations.
Journal: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you become more aware of them. By taking the time to reflect on your day, you can gain insight into your emotions and behaviors. Seek feedback: Feedback from others can be invaluable in increasing self-awareness. Ask for feedback from colleagues, friends, and family members, and be open to constructive criticism. Practice self-reflection: Take time to reflect on your experiences and how they have shaped you. This can help you understand your values, beliefs, and priorities. |

Self-Management Tips & Tricks Self-management is the ability to regulate your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that are productive and healthy. It allows you to stay focused on your goals and make sound decisions, even in challenging situations. Here are some techniques and tools for self-management: Emotional regulation: Recognize your emotions and learn to manage them in healthy ways. Techniques like deep breathing, meditation, and exercise can help you regulate your emotions. Time management: Effective time management is essential for self-management. Set goals, prioritize tasks, and manage your time effectively. Stress management: Stress can be a major challenge for leaders. Develop healthy habits like exercise, meditation, and social support to manage stress effectively. Accountability: Hold yourself accountable for your actions and decisions. Set clear goals and track your progress toward achieving them. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t put in a plug for coaching, the ultimate accountability structure!

Coaching Questions & Self-Reflection Reflect by journaling and honestly answering these questions: How am I feeling right now? What do I need? What do I want? Which relationships could use some nurturing? Do I devote enough time to taking care of myself mind, body, and soul each week/month? What are my most important goals? Where do I spend most of my time? How much time am I taking to work on my goals? What support structures can I put into place to ensure my success?
Remember, self-awareness and self-management are lifelong practices, so be patient with yourself as you keep learning, growing, and evolving as a leader.
