Hot and Cold Stones

July has been a busy month for me. I ran a hot stones treatment giveaway and got to give this amazing treatment to some really lovely people.

Learning a new skill is always exciting and I've really loved being able to show people the healing benefits that the stones can bring!

If you are interested in trying out a hot stones treatment why not book a treatment?

A 60 minute hot stone massage is £50 and will leave you feeling blissfully relaxed. The heat really works magic on tired, tense muscles.

You can see some of the lovely things that people have said about the hot stones treatment here.

Lymphatic Health

One of the many wonderful benefits of massage is a healthier lymphatic system.

But what does this mean? Your lymphatic system is not as well known as some of body's other systems but it should be, a critical part of your immune system!

In very basic terms the lymphatic system filters out harmful bacteria and any other potential dangers from the body so that you don't get ill.

he lymphatic system relies on lymph fluid pumping around the body. In a healthy, active person this system works well. The regular movement of muscles helps to pump the fluid around and keep the body healthy.

TThe  video below gives a really good explanation of how the lymphatic system works in a bit more detail. It's definitely worth a watch.

If you struggle with your mobility and would like to try to improve your immune health there are lots of things that you can do to help the flow of your lymph fluid!

~ Stay hydrated! This feels like my answer to everything, but it really does help! If you start to feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. Ideally you would never feel thirst.

~Walk every day. It doesn't really matter how far or how fast. Regular movement is key here.

~ Dry brushing. I think I will write more fully about dry brushing in a later newsletter as it is a really interesting topic but for now have a look at this video for more info.

~ Deep Diaphragmatic Breathing.  Take a few deep, diaphragmatic breaths from your belly up to my heart to activate the largest lymph vessel in the body- the thoracic duct.

Here's a great article on improving your lymphatic health featuring Lisa Levitt Gainsley.

If this has peaked your interest and you'd like to find out more about Lymphatic health and in particular how you can help improve your lymphatic system using self massage I'd recommend reading The Book of Lymph by Lisa Levitt Gainsley.

Why not try...?

My suggestion today is to add a slight change to your morning routine. I'm a big believer in having a morning routine, ideally one that includes stretching, hydrating and giving yourself a bit of peace before you start out on your day. Of course everybody has differing needs and every day presents differing situations.

The one small change I'd like to suggest is this:

  • When you wake in the morning, before you get out of your bed, take a moment
  • Take a deep breath
  • Remind yourself of one positive thing about yourself. It doesn't matter how small. It can be the same thing every day
  • Smile (don't skip this step!)
  • Then sit up and drink a large glass of room temperature water
  • Then go about your day!

Try this small change everyday for a week and see how you feel. Try it for another week and then for a month. Good habits come from small changes.
