Barn Talk

Barn Talk April

Well that did not go to plan!

It has been a long haul for what was going to be only two weeks off for an operation has now been almost 6 weeks and likely to be another 2 weeks. I apologise for the delay and believe me I missed Farm World this year which was a bummer.

I had a lovely lady contact me whilst I am recovering who is having issues with her horse but wanted a little more than I could give, including paddock assessment and feed. Rather than say I could help I was upfront and honest and I said I could provide a suggestion for someone else who may be able to help but if not could then maybe refer on. I don’t want to waste people’s money or time and I have decided to focus on the equine body which you do need to know about digestion etc but it is not something I have studied solely in.

I am sorry to say my prices had to go up due to the wonderful petrol price going through the roof and I will be looking at having to maybe group areas together rather than travel all around. It was working smarter not harder but of course I am flexible.

I am still working on a maintenance membership which I will launch exclusively to those on who have subscribed before offering it in general. So stay tunned.

As our days get shorter and the weather changes I hope over this Easter period you get to spend time with the ones you love and time with your horses.

Keep safe till next Barn Talk

Choosing Who Works with your Horse

Whilst I am writing this from an Equine Body Worker these key principles can apply to whoever you get to work with your horse.

At the moment there are so many different support groups to assist you with your horse how do you know they are right and they are who they say they are?

  • Ask questions? Don't be afraid to say what is your experience, what are your qualifications, are you insured, where did you study
  • Do they ask questions? I like ask what they are experiencing, what they have done and a bit about the horse.
  • You can ask them if they are associated with any professional organisation. For Body Workers SAENA (Small Animal and Equine Naturopathic Association and ETAA (Equine Therapies Association of Australia) are the main two and by being associated and a member you can be assured their accreditation has been assessed and confirmed and they have a strict Code of Conduct.
  • Lastly and not least when they come out trust your instinct and your horses. If either of you have that feeling it is not right then stop.

Don't forget that we are not allowed to diagnose, ONLY a vet can do it. We can suggest and in my case I have several times said a vet needs to see your horse. I have also in a few cases suggested questioning the Vet and thankfully the owners have and gone to another vet only to find a different correct answer.
