Unwound is gently approaching the new normal. Thank you for continuing to support us as we navigate the intricacies of owning a small business with the reality of keeping all of us safe. We are happy to have a greater online presence, and your online purchases have given us hope that we can keep Unwound Artisan Yarn going. Please keep buying from us at www.unwoundshop.com and placing phone orders for shipment or curbside pickup. On May 15, we began offering 30-minute in-store shopping appointments. This is a one-to-one shopping experience, so you get the full attention of Unwound staff! Masks are required to keep all of us safe and healthy. For this month's Women of Unwound Heather has posted an interview with Terri Wolfgram over on the blog. Here's an excerpt: Heather: What yarn-y tool do you find most useful, other than needles? Terri: Does my tablet count? I use the Squid app to store my patterns and to mark them up while working on a project. | | |

Stephen West Summer KAL! @Unwound June-August 2020 The future is wide open, so let's fill it with Stephen West knits! Like Stephen West, Unwound likes the unusual, so this KAL is just that, a knit-along free-for-all. Pick any Stephen West pattern and start knitting. That's it! We will kick off the KAL at First Friday on June 5, and we'll knit away all summer long. You have until September 1 to finish. Heather is thinking about doing Triangle Parade, and this photo shows just a few of the yarns from the shop she's considering. Let's go! |

Safe-At-Home Blanket Unwound Charity Knit-along The Wisconsin Supreme Court has just struck down Gov. Evers’s stay-at-home order. We have mixed feelings about this, but most of all, we are concerned that everyone be and feel safe. That means being/feeling safe at home and being/feeling safe out in the world. When the pandemic reached the United States and people across the nation were staying safe at home, we were thinking of people for whom it’s impossible to be “safe at home,” specifically, people who are homeless, who experience domestic violence, and who contend with healthcare insecurity. How could we support these populations while staying “safe at home” ourselves? Enter Margaret Holzmann’s Safe at Home blanket pattern, and the Safe at Home blanket charity knit was born! |
|
Continuing through June 5, the Safe at Home blanket charity knit asks anyone to knit just one block (or more) of Holzmann’s pattern (blanket image below is linked to pattern) and drop it off or mail it to us. The collected blocks will be connected into one or more blankets that will be auctioned or raffled off, with the proceeds going to one or more charities that work to reverse conditions that make home an unsafe place for many people. You can find out more about the charity KAL, including block size and yarn requirements, through the Safe at Home Blanket Charity KAL event on our Facebook page and through the Ravelry group named “safe at home blanket charity knit.” It’s exciting to see so many different states and countries represented among the members of the Ravelry group! We have several yarns in the shop that can be used for the blanket. Susan especially loves Blue Sky Fibers’s Spud & Chloe Sweater (a worsted 50/50 wool and cotton blend). But you are welcome to use this as a de-stash project! |
