The Water Dancers’ Cape Town premiere is particularly timeous, as the city edges its way out of a significant drought. While we were in production last year, Cape Town’s reservoir levels were dwindling below 30%, strict water regulations were imposed on the city’s residents, limiting them to 87 litres per person, per day. These targets were struggling to be met. One year later – and although the region has received considerable rainfall, resulting in levels rising above 60% – strict water regulations remain intact and many are concerned that the rainfall has given way to renewed complacency. This is a climate that can heavily benefit from the message of our documentary, with its focus on optimizing industrial processes whilst protecting natural resources.
