Now, four years later, a new FIFA World Cup is just around the corner. And, believe me, unless you are German, you have probably been trying to forget about the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
So, let's focus on 2018...
Soccer fans everywhere are making plans for that first match, on June 14th, and every single match until the final game, on July 15th. It is a whole month of tension, excitement, cheering words, and words we probably shouldn't share with our young readers. It is probably the only time of the year most of the world hopes to get slightly sick so, instead of going to work, you can spend the day on the couch, under the blanket, watching the games.
I am ready.
My son just had a Brazilian-soccer-themed birthday party, during which I tried to brainwash every kid and add a few soccer fans to the Brazilian side. Unfortunately, the cake caught on fire, so I doubt the kids remember anything else.
All our TV apps are ready to go so, if we are on the road (as we usually are during the summer), we can stop and watch the games on our computers.
And my friend Dow Phumiruk created the amazing book trailer for THE SOCK THIEF: A SOCCER STORY that you just watched and shared. You shared it, right? Well, what are you waiting for?
If you are planning on introducing your kids to the greatest event on Earth, here are a few things you might need:
- The 2018 World Cup Schedule. Make sure it is set for your time zone!
- The correct outfit. Hint: It must be green and yellow.
- A soft remote control, so it won't break the TV when you throw it in frustration or, hopefully, in utter excitement.
- Most importantly, don't forget your copy of THE SOCK THIEF: A SOCCER STORY, available wherever books are sold. (And you can download free activities for your little ones here.)
Let's keep in touch!
All the best,
Ana
