Welcome to Golf Hammock!

Words from the President

We completed the replacement of seven failing culverts this month. Prior to the replacement of the failed culverts, I reviewed each candidate for replacement with our contractor Excavation Point Inc.(EPI), and identified three culverts not requiring replacement. This, combined with direction from South West Florida Water Management on lake level changes, resulted in savings for 2018. The Drainage Committee convened to discuss acceleration of 2019 projects, into 2018, to take advantage of the savings. The committee decided to recommend the board approve acceleration of 2019 Cormorant Point projects. I requested EPI provide updated estimates for work along Cormorant Drive (from Par Road to Waterwood Drive).

Board officers (Bob, George and Roger) removed debris from the channel between Lakes Clara and Elaine. Thanks to Bob Schroeder for the prep work of dragging the material out of the channel. Thanks to Bob Schroeder, Ken Mills and Roger Steuer for their efforts preparing the pot hole areas at the front entrance, Par and Hammock Roads and Lost Ball for hot patching by EPI. This prep work allowed GHOA to take advantage of excess hot patch from the culvert replacement project.

You may be aware that the Golf Hammock Country Club (GHCC) is a private corporation that owns and manages the Golf Course along with a pool and tennis court area. The GHCC decided last December, for business reasons, to eliminate the pool area, and is currently planning to eliminate the tennis court area. Last month, the Board of Directors formed a special committee, to investigate the purchase of the tennis court area. This committee will survey the membership to determine the desires to maintain this recreational area.

Volunteers make a difference in the community and save the HOA money. There are many committees and tasks that need your help. Please consider donating some of your time to help our community remain one of the premier developments in Highlands County.

Words from the Secretary

It is hard to believe that we are in the middle of April already. Many snowbirds have headed north, (safe travels) and Easter has come and gone, heading right into summer! With Easter brunch being served at the club house this year, it made for a pleasant day for many that chose to have one of their holiday meals there. Two sittings were offered, a breakfast and a lunch time menu. Many thanks to the Chad Danser family who worked their Easter Sunday to prepare food and do clean-up duty for all that were able to attend.

Exciting News! I would like to take a moment to mention the positive reports that I am getting from the webmaster, Ruthie. We are moving in the right direction with new subscribers every month and many more views of our website. We are getting new as well as established residents registered with their email address at ghoaonline.com. By doing so, you will always stay connected to what is happening in our community. Residents are taking interest in the information that is offered through the website, newsletters and shout-outs! You must check that out!

Again the newsletter’s purpose is for anything of interest from various social activities, reminders of the rules and regulations to up and coming community events that perhaps our neighbors would be interested in getting some information about.

Trash Cans

Article 9, Garbage and Trash Removal

No garbage, refuse or rubbish shall be kept on any lot. All areas for the deposit, storage or collection of garbage or trash shall be substantially shielded or screened from neighboring property or common areas, including the golf course.

Dog Walkers

Remember to pick up after your pet. Common ground areas, along with the golf course including any other property along the path, your dog should be picked up after he/she does their business. Many walking have visible bags or tools to help in this activity which is very responsible however others do not. Please be more considerate of your neighbors, our community and golf course.

Architectural Chairman

The architectural chairman is Roger Steuer ghoatreasurer@gmail.com if you are making any changes to the appearance of your home send an email making him and the association aware of your project. This avoids unnecessary wondering or concern as to why perhaps equipment, trailers, workers are seen on your property as well as verifying that your project is within the guidelines of the stated rules and regulations. Sheds or other structures as well as many other projects need building permits according to the Highland County building and zoning departments. Again depending on the structure, rear, side and front have certain setbacks. This only protects you as a homeowner. You can contact the building department for more

information.

Violations/Complaint Chairman

The violations/complaint chairman is Bob Schroeder bobs1501@outlook.com if you are aware of a possible violation/complaint. Please remember an official complaint starts with filling out a complaint form. These forms are available on our website. If you have a question or concern please direct those to him and he will do his best to look into the matter.

If there is something that you feel you would like to see in the newsletter as a regular item, an announcement, or general information, please let me know! I look forward to hearing from you!
