Parkinson's Awareness Month! |

April kicks off Parkinson's Awareness Month. April 11th is World Parkinson's Day. Here are a few ways you can spread awareness. Light it up blue. Light up your home, front porch, town hall, or an iconic bolding on April 11th.
2. Donate to your favorite Parkinson's nonprofit. Share your story on social media and use the hashtag #worldparkinsonsday. Attend a fundraising event listed below. Participate in PD Avenger's Sit2Stand challenge! Film yourself doing as many sit to stands in 1 minute as your can and post them to social media using #worldparkinsonsday.

SilverSneakers Classic Wednesday 11:30 AM YMCA Malta Branch Have fun and move to music through a variety of exercises to increase muscular strength, range of motion, and activity for daily living skills. Living Well in the Capital Region |

A free event presented as part of the Healthy Parkinson’s Communities™ Summit Series Saturday, April 22, 2023, 9 am - 2 pm Capital District YMCA | Southern Saratoga Branch 1 Wall Street Clifton Park, NY 12065 A day of information and connection to learn about living well with Parkinson’s with others in your community who want to do the same. This free event will feature an open-house resource fair filled with local and national resources and representation from organizations committed to helping people live well. Plus, don’t miss a presentation from your local Parkinson’s advocates about resources that will help you better understand Parkinson’s, why it’s essential to take a holistic approach to living well, and how to access resources in your area. Resource Fair open 9 am - 2 pm “Living Well in the Capital Region” presentation 10:30 am – 12 pm Attendance is free and open to the public. Every Victory Counts Challenge |

The Every Victory Counts Challenge celebrates every victory, big and small, and highlights the importance of exercise for living well with Parkinson’s. Participants create their own challenge for the month and choose to run, cycle, log walking miles, dance, box, swim, or any combination of activity to join in the event at your pace and your place. | | |

Outdoor Recreation in Parkinson's Disease Survey |

The investigators of this faculty-led student research from the New York Institute of Technology's Physical Therapy program invite you to participate in an online survey. The purpose of this survey is to: 1. Gain a better understanding of the interest of the Parkinson's community with respect to participating in outdoor recreation activities such as hiking, mountain biking, fishing, skiing, canoeing, surfing, or birdwatching. 2. What factors help or hinder your participation in outdoor recreation activities 3. Ascertain your interest in participating in a focus group that will meet after the survey is completed. |

The Adirondack Fox Trot 5K |

Join us on Sunday, April 29th, for The Adirondack Fox Trot 5K. The event will be held at Betwar Byway at 9am, and registration will open at 7am. In addition to the 5K, there will be a basket raffle with winners being drawn at 10am. Share your voice with the Speech Accessibility Project! |

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is now recruiting individuals with Parkinson’s to help commercial speech recognition tools understand diverse voices, including those affected by Parkinson’s and related neurological diagnoses, for example, MSA, PSP, CBD and post-DBS. All personal information safeguarded at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This project is funded by Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft. Mentors from LSVT Global will walk you through the participation process so you can record your speech from the comfort of your own home. Get started today! Participants can earn up to $180.
