Luckily the triple-digit heat this past weekend only burnt one row of head lettuce and some microgreens. The rest of our field preserved and we're excited to bring you a special De La Mesa Farms salad mix this week made with red and green lettuce, arugula, baby beet greens, and a dash of micro-basil and pea flowers. We've also got our first flush of tomatoes - a cherry tomato variety called Sun Gold that is well-known for its sweet flavor. Not to mention we're throwing cherries into the mix - they're not the biggest cherries in the world, but they're big on cherry flavor.
And don't forget, you can place your pre-orders on our website starting every Thursday evening for pickup the following week at farmer's markets and on-farm. Deadline to place your orders is Sunday
Spotted: the first of our blueberries are turning color. We think this means it's another 2-3 weeks before we'll have organic blueberries!
It was starting to feel a little like a jungle in our greenhouse and the cucumbers were getting out of hand.
But thanks to this awesome volunteer, we were able to get our cucumbers trellised this week and are patiently awaiting a slew of Japanese, pickling and slicing cucumbers.
Happy cucumber flowers in the evening light makes us happy too.
Emiliano checking to see whether the wild blackberries are spiky. Yes, yes they are.
These are shishito peppers flanking the sides of our greenhouse. These are the only peppers we are growing this season, but we hope to expand with more varities next year.
