Hello, Art and Design Friends! What do you love about art? For me, it's more than just painting on a canvas. It's about capturing an experience, hoping to connect the beauty and emotion of that moment with others, and inspiring a sense of hope and wonder. During a recent visit to the Columbus Museum of Art, I was struck by the diversity of art's purposes. Some canvases unburden weighty questions, inspiring contemplation. Others offer a message of shared beauty or capture an everyday object, encapsulating that moment onto a canvas forever. Some canvases pose societal justice questions, instigating change. This diversity of purposes made me ponder why the artists created each piece, and what drove them. An artist's purpose is as varied as their technique, style, and delivery, and it's this diversity that keeps us engaged and intrigued. As an artist and an advocate for other creatives, as a Durango Open Studio Tour host with my co-host, friend, and fellow artist Heather Freeman, I'm constantly reminded of the power of art to connect us. The Tour is not just an event, but a community, a platform for artists and art enthusiasts to come together, share their interpretations and techniques, and connect through their shared love of art. The Tour is an avenue to explore, connect with, and discover the diverse interpretations and techniques of 29 unique artists. Each artist brings their own perspective and style, and their art affects you in different ways. Putting your art out into the world serves a high purpose – inspiring and passing along a thought or technique to influence our collective future. I'm honored to provide a venue for all these purposes through the Durango Open Studio Tour October 4-6, so we can connect through the process of exploring others' interpretations of their purpose, perhaps seeing our own life experiences and questions reflected in another artist's canvas, providing validation, and connection with others as we ponder. Art offers wonder, joy, contemplation, and meditation. What purpose does art serve in your life? Warmly, Cindy P.S. Hide & Seek Another fall scene? Really? What's the purpose of that?! Have I mentioned how much I LOVE autumn? The sound of early autumn's crunch of leaves, the sight of a single crimson leaf snuggled into an ebbing green lawn, and the feeling of crisp autumn air that takes my breath away evokes such a resonant emotional response in me that I needed to paint yet another fall canvas to express my autumn feelings fully. I hope you, too, savor the season with all your senses. |

Purgatory Metro District Some brands express the purpose of their business succinctly and stand the test of time. The Purgatory Metro District provides high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient central water and wastewater services, road maintenance, and snow removal for the community around the Purgatory ski area. |

Seventeen years ago, the Purgatory Metro District needed a logo that could suit their present needs while being flexible enough to grow as business goals change. I designed the apropos logo emblazoned on the District’s fleet trucks, uniforms, marketing materials, and signage. Its message still communicates the mission today.

Shrub! I can't wait to share my newest culinary inspiration! Have you ever tried Shrub? I had never heard of it until I purchased a couple bottles of Sunbird's unfiltered, prebiotic goodness at the Durango Farmer's Market for my husband's birthday. Mixed with seltzer water (and possibly your favorite spirit), it makes a zesty, sparkly, refreshing drink, similar to kombucha, that embraces the essence of your favorite summer fruits. Apple cider vinegar has many purposes: gut health, regulating blood sugar, antimicrobial properties, hair health, and a zesty addition to dressings and recipes. But to be perfectly honest, I've never liked the flavor much, until I tried it in Shrub! I'm a changed woman. For a refreshing drink, pour 1-2 Tbsp. Shrub into a glass filled with ice and top off with club soda; stir gently to combine. Favorite spirit is optional. Garnish with fruit or herbs for fun. Enjoy!
