mano-Y-ola Celebrates National Stress Awareness Month through Continued Location Flexibility for Team Members

Program Manager, Patricia Morales, Chronicles How Working Remotely Decreases Her Stress

Guaynabo, Puerto Rico - National Stress Awareness Month, which takes place in April, encourages us to focus on understanding and minimizing stress daily. Numerous circumstances, including obligations at work, money issues, health complications, and more, can cause stress. Therefore, understanding the causes of stress and developing effective coping techniques is crucial. This month, we encourage our readers to participate in stress-relieving activities such as walking in the park, practicing meditation, and working out. Furthermore, at mano-Y-ola, we aim to help individuals love what they do. For our team, this is expressed in the concept of working from home and its added flexibility, which can reduce stress and improve overall well-being.

Each person can experience distinct effects from working remotely. For example, being a young, single millennial without kids allows me to lead a more balanced life. I can travel, go to the gym, and fulfill my personal and professional responsibilities and goals with more flexibility. This lifestyle allows me to manage my stress and maintain my mental health. In contrast, a Gen X mother who balances work and family might experience

other positive effects from working from home. My colleague, Honor Rackley, mano-Y-ola’s Data Systems Specialist, shared, “At this stage in my life, with children and aging parents, the flexibility that working from home provides for me is priceless. It allows me to be home and available for my kids and open to the various needs of my parents.”

By enabling our team members to work from home and offering flexible hours, mano-Y-ola aims to support their desired lifestyles. In addition, this approach provides our team members stress relief and general well-being improvement. While working remotely is not a possibility for many professions, mano-Y-ola encourages each company to find workable ways to minimize the stress of its employees, such as offering access to counseling through benefits, sufficient breaks, a strong work-life balance, mental health days, and a supportive and healthy company ethos.
