Dear Neighbors,
We did it!
Neighbors for Neighborhoods LQ (N4N) submitted our petition to La Quinta election officials to qualify our initiative on the November ballot. With over 150% of the required signatures, we demonstrated broad and robust support for our initiative to protect the quality of life in La Quinta. Thanks to all our volunteers and to those of you who signed the petition.
On June 7, 2022, the City Council adopted resolutions to submit to voters of the City of La Quinta the Initiative to be decided by voters on Election Day, November 8, 2022. The City Council then approved the following Ballot Measure question:
“Yes” or "No"
Shall the measure, proposing to phase-out and permanently ban
"non-hosted short-term vacation rentals" as defined, in non-exempt
areas of the City of La Quinta by December 31, 2024, be adopted?
A “Yes” vote on the November ballot measure will phase out non-hosted and non-supervised short-term vacation rentals (STVRs) in the 93 non-exempt neighborhoods by December 31, 2024. The measure will have no impact on, and will continue to support and promote, short term vacation rentals in the 11 exempt tourist commercial (TC) zones within La Quinta that are designated for nightly rentals. These include the La Quinta Resort, The SilverRock/Talus residential properties and the Signature to a name just a few. See city map of TC zones
We are NOT done yet!
After a lengthy petition campaign, this issue will be on the November ballot allowing La Quinta voters to decide for themselves. This is the first time in the history of our city that La Quinta voters have obtained the required signatures to place an issue important to residents on the ballot.
It's time to:
Reassert the right to live in a non-commercial, single-family residential neighborhood protected by zoning.
Restore and improve our available housing in residential zones for our working families.
Restore and return our residential neighborhood integrity, character, and livability.
Restrict and promote STVRs to Tourist Commercial Zones within the City.
The opponents of the VOTER's ballot measure are working aggressively to persuade voters to vote NO. They are amassing a six-figure war chest of outside monies to be used to flood the city with TV and newspaper ads depicting a doomsday scenario if the measure should win. They will claim our city cannot financially support itself unless we surrender our safety and peaceful enjoyment and allow outside investors to monetize our neighborhoods!
