This Sunday...Prospect Park.

Join us on an exploration of this Pastoral Paradise.

Remember back in late June when we released our first audio walk and it poured? Some of you braved the weather and were rewarded with the misty romance of Prospect Park that day. This Sunday, no rain in the forecast, let's do this walk together and gather on picnic blankets after.

Ease into the week ahead with our immersive audio tour through this pastoral paradise. Allow Olmsted and Vaux's design principles, the history of Lenapehoking, and the stories of strange mutant elms to come alive.

Henna and Mike will be at the start point at 2pm to help you get started, and then you can continue exploring completely at your own pace. Afterwords, join us for a socially distanced meetup on picnic blankets near the last stop.

Set intentions and recharge with this meditative walk as we enter a new week.

When? Sunday August 30th, 2pm-3pm

Where? The Panthers on 3rd Street and Prospect Park W

What to bring? Headphones, newest Gesso app, picnic blanket, and don't forget your mask!

Ways to Support Bed-Stuy Businesses

We hope you've been enjoying our audio collection of stories around Bed-Stuy. In addition to immersing yourself in the neighborhood's rich history, here are some local businesses you can check out:

  • Abu's Bakery: Enjoy the iconic bean pie, sweet potato pie, pecan pie, or coconut custard pie from this family-owned business (ships nationwide). The bean pie in particular tells one of the most essential stories about Muslims in America. Check out this great video from Slate to hear the full story and meet the current owner!
  • Cafe on Ralph: This mother and son duo are serving the community all week from 10am-5pm! They also recently started delivering groceries, just order online!
  • Milk & Pull: This wife and husband duo are running their cafe in three locations: Bed-Stuy, Bushwick, and Ridgewood, Queens. Whether you're in the mood for something savory or sweet, you'll definitely want to order some brunch from here.
  • Sofia and Grace Cookie Company: Inspired by her grandmother and hoping to leave a legacy for her daughters, Shalonda Vasquez is creating some seriously sweet treats... just take a look at this dulce de leche latte + cookie combo.
  • Zaca Cafe: Chef Inoussa Campaore is blending French classics with American comfort foods: crisp-and-gooey Croque Madame, ratatouille, a béchamel-based mac and cheese, you name it. They're currently serving takeout, delivery, catering, and curbside/outdoor dining from 9am-9pm.

This is just a sample of all that Bed-Stuy has to offer. We hope you continue to explore the neighborhood and find some new favorite spots of your own!

Save The Date: September 12

We've got our audio walk across the Brooklyn Bridge coming up, where we'll be immersed in the bridge's 14 year construction history! More details to follow in next week's email but in the meantime ⬇️
