Victoria & Albert Museum Autumn 2019 & 2020 Jacqueline's course at the V&A in Autumn 2019 - 'From Goya to Picasso and Beyond' - is already sold out but if you are interested then do ring the V and A and get yourself on the waiting list just in case. This course will examine the rich period of Spanish art starting with Goya living and working through the Peninsular Wars, including Picasso and the Spanish Civil War and ending with contemporary artists, their responses to the Civil War and their visualisations of the Spanish world now. It will include artists such as Sorolla, Dalí, Miró and Tàpies but will also explore several less well-known Spanish artists from Barcelona, Andalucia and other cities. You will also meet architects such as Gaudi and Santiago Calatrava (click on the image left, to see a fascinating video of the construction of Caltrava's obelisk in Madrid). There will be an optional guided tour to Madrid from 27th- 30th March 2020 to explore the art and architecture covered in the lectures. If you are interested contact us directly. If you didn't make the course you might find it very informative and a good alternative.

Australian Lecture Tours The tour of New South Wales in February/March this year was another great success, with Jacqueline giving 19 lectures for The Arts Society at 15 different locations, ranging from the drought-ridden plains around places like Scone and Dubbo to the more well-watered delights of the Blue Mountains and Sydney. Ian was promoted from 'roadie' to guest lecturer on just one occasion, at the Royal Sydney Golf Club. Shame he doesn't play golf! The Australian audiences everywhere were very responsive and well-travelled and the tour was such a success that just one week in we were both invited back for a joint lecture tour in 2021, covering Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney and a few other less well-known cities around the south coast. |

Residential Courses in Andalucia Booking for our 2020 residential courses in Andalucia is already well under way. Most courses still start in our luxury villa in Gaucin, but in 2019 we extended our tours to include visits to Seville and Granada - in addition to the tours of Ronda, Jerez, Cordoba and Malaga that we have been running for the last few years - and they were a great success. In 2020 we will once again repeat the Madrid-Toledo short tour that proved so popular when we first piloted in 2017. If you are interested in joining one of the Open Courses exploring the art, architecture, food, wine and broader cultural life of beautiful, vibrant Andalucia - or getting your own group together for a Bespoke Course - please visit our website by clicking on the link below.

Venice Biennale One of Gaucin's most creative artists, and a good personal friend, Jim Rattenbury, is exhibiting his work at this year's Biennale in Venice. His show is called 'Under the Water, Over the Earth' and we attended the opening at the Palazzo Bembo near the Rialto Bridge on 9th May. Jacqueline wrote an excellent entry in the catalogue and Art and Culture Andalucia also contributed some sponsorship to this excellent exhibition. Jim is a painter, sculptor and....alchemist. His approach to his creations is highly experimental, and he says himself that he seldom knows in advance what the end result of the creative process is going to be. This may be part of the reason why his art continually evolves, never repeating itself. Take a look at his website and you'll see what we mean.

Art History Link-Up Ian has taken on the role of Trustee and Honorary Treasurer for a small arts-related charity, Art History Link-Up, which provides art history classes for young people from state schools, who don't normally have access to the subject. Art history can provide a very sound basis for interpretation, interaction and career development in our increasingly visual world. AHL-U is only two years old but proving very popular and inspiring. Click on the logo above left for more details of this exciting new charity.

ACT Lectures in London Meanwhile Ian has launched his career as an accredited lecturer of The Arts Society and has already been booked up for 45 lectures. This follows on from lectures given earlier this year at the V&A and a conference paper at Christie's Education, amongst others. He still has as long way to go however to catch up with Jacqueline who has been lecturing for The Arts Society for 4 years and running courses for a number of other London-based Art History organisations since 2014. Jacqueline's programme for the 2019-20 season includes a number of Art Society lectures in England and Abroad, the V and A course, a Christie's Education course called 'The Fundamentals of Western Art', The Art Fund, and a growing number of private lecture series. If you are interested in attending any of these lectures and courses or arranging anything privately for yourself or in a group please contact Jacqueline directly on the number below. |
