NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2020

Christmas Wishes

To our community of members, parents, sponsors, coaches and court hirers, best wishes for the festive season.  The club will still be open of course during this period.  Please come down for a casual drink and nibbles on Saturday 19th December at 4pm.   We look forward to seeing then or in the New Year.

The Club is in talks with the South Perth Council looking for support for 2 projects being:

1.  The upgrading of our court lights to LED.  The current light quality is poor and in addition, they are costly to maintain and of course, lack the energy efficient nature of LED lights.  There have been a number of issues recently and we thank court hirers and members for their patience as we try and solve these problems.

2.  The upgrading of our carpark.  I think we would all agree this area can be a bit of an eyesore and we are looking to upgrade to provide both more parking and also a more attractive entrance to the club.

Congratulations to Alan Morecombe on winning the over 80's singles at the recent Tennis Seniors WA Championship seen here receiving his medallion from Paul Moss.

Congratulations to Katya Horrocks (left) and Isabella McKenzie (right) on being awarded Most Improved Junior Girl and the Johnny Miller Foundation Award respectively.  The most improved junior boy was George Rowe.  The girls are pictured here with local MLA John McGrath, South Perth Councillor Glenn Cridland, Junior Co-ordinator Conor Smith and Club President Colin Napier.

One of our Clubs sponsors, Three B’s (Burswood Bar & Bistro), is now in the Entertainment Values book- offering subscribers 25% off the total Bill (up to $40 value). Phone 9355 0669 to make a reservation.

Congratulations to Robert Spadaccini & his team at AMG HOMES in winning the best renovation project award at this year’s HIA Housing Awards. Spadaccini Homes & New Choice Homes sponsor court 17 at our Club.

Thanks to all those who attended the Christmas Party and apologies to those members who didn't get the email notification.  We are transitioning between email systems and unfortunately, we still have gaps and teething problems to solve.  Those who turned up had a great time and it was fantastic to see so many children running around and being well fed by Danny, Robyn and their helpers.

 Preston Street IGA

Has been run by the Sequeira family since 1988 when it was known as two separate stores – SupaValu and Como Fresh. What distinguishes your business from others? Our customer service & strong connection with our community which has been a primary focus. We always welcome feedback from our clientele on new products & any new ways of providing our service offerings. We have over 100 staff, some of whom have been working in the team for between 20 and 30 years! We also reinvest in our store regularly to refresh the lay-out and keep our offering exciting and on trend. What’s changed since your business started? A lot more emphasis on fresh produce such as fruit & vegetables, meat, flowers & bakery. We now provide “meal solutions” which are aimed at those “on the go” as well as catering for functions. For the last 3 years our IGA has been operating 24 hours each day which has been well received by locals & others passing by. What was the impact of COVID-19? Lots of panic buying such as toilet rolls, flour, pasta and meat! We were pro-active as a business by creating 2 teams of staff who were on swinging rosters to safeguard against the onset of the virus. We also delivered groceries to the elderly, vulnerable and returned travellers in quarantine.  Strict hygiene controls continue today with social distancing markers on the floor, regular trolley cleans & regular cleaning in high volume areas. Why have you sponsored our Club for so long? We have benefited from the strong support and loyalty of our community, including from your members who have supported our business for so many years. We support many other clubs, schools and local organisations in appreciation of the support we receive from the community. How can we help your business? By shopping local. Please remember what we do, what we offer (eg catering for private or corporate events) & how well we do things, which has been recognized by being awarded the Best IGA store in Australia (as well as Best Bakery in Aus and WA, Best Produce in Aus and WA and Best Deli in WA). We are more than just a corner IGA - we are a friendly face and a helping hand and we make things happen!.
