Bakers Against Racism

Raised Over $1.8 Million

Thank you all for your support and contributions towards Bakers Against Racism Bake Sale. With you help, our bake sale and pie auction raised $3,585 which was donated to the Black Lives Matter Los Angeles Chapter and Campaign Zero to help end systematic racism and police brutality. That's 636 cookies baked, 106 bags of cookies, 75 orders, and 2 pies. WOWEE!! Collectively, the worldwide Bakers Against Racism Bake Sale raised over $1.8 million!!!!!! This is HUGE! And it was all done by individuals like you and me, not big corporations or billionaires.

I hope you've all enjoyed your cookies and are wanting more. My hands still hurt and I think I developed a bone spur on my thumb from all the baking. BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT. Thank you for using your dollars to eat cookies in support of fighting against racism. The bake sale may be over and Breonna Taylor's name is no longer trending, but police brutality hasn't changed, the officers who killed Breonna have not been arrested, and we still have work to do. Don't stop having hard conversations, be an ally, speak up for what you feel is right, and be a champion and supporter of anti-racist ideas and policies. More importantly, GO VOTE IN NOVEMBER LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!

If you loved my bake sale cookies, the recipes are on my blog! Get on it: Lemon Crinkle Cookies and Strawberry Almond Cookies.

Baking With Chickens is celebrating our one-year BLOGIVERSARY. One year ago we took the leap to start this magical chicken train and create our own creative content studio -- BWC Studios! Thanks for being on board. Woot-woot! Toot-toot!

I made a painted buttercream Watermelon Lemonade Cake to celebrate! I'm usually terrible at making layer cakes, but I've learned so much from my failed attempts. Read my Tips for How to Make Better Layer Cakes.

Food is political, food can be a form of activism, and food is art. I made this Black is Beautiful Cherry Clafoutis in reaction to the nationwide Black Lives Matters protests to highlight how just because something is a different color than what you're used to seeing, it's still inherently the same.

This is still a delicious Cherry Clafoutis even thought the batter is a magnificent black color rather than the traditional golden white. Tastes the same. Just looks different.

Where's the Vaccine?

via NPR Planet Money

Great listen from NPR Planet Money on how vaccines are made. In a "pandemic influenza outbreak you need 900,000 chicken eggs every single day for a six- to nine-month period of time to make the vaccine supply needed just for the United States."

Rad baking projects spotted on Instagram that will stop you in your tracks and perfect for your long weekend baking. #goals

@momentofsugar made a Tie-Dye Cherry Pie that confirms my theory that rainbow sprinkles make everything better.

@halfbakedharvest shared this Fudgy Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Pretzel Cake. Salty, creamy + peanutty, and heavy on the fudge sauce.

Not baking, but hot damn. @sweetly_salted_berry's naturally colored Rainbow Dumplings is next level. If you're ambitious this recipe is on her blog.

If you're basic and lazy like me, get Mama Wong's Chinese Dumpling no recipe-recipe using store-bought wrappers and enjoy the giant talking chicken head.
