Dear Summer,
How is it time to begin saying our goodbyes already? I am in denial that it is that time of year and I’m begging for you to stay for just a little longer. Just give me one more beach day, one more stunning summer sunset, one more euphoric night along the water with friends, one more chaotic summer adventure, one more outdoor concert full of dancing with my hands above my head. Just one more.
If I did get that one more, it wouldn’t settle my appetite. I am always hungry for more because the story that we create together feeds my soul. When it is time to say goodbye, you can see the story of our journey on my body. It is clearly visible in the bathing suit tan lines, the sun burns from the sunscreen missing a spot, the laughs that deepen the laugh lines just a little bit more, and the silly watch tan from those special runs. All of this makes the heart yearn for you to stay just a little longer.
I know you’ll be back before I know it and that there are so many different parts of life to live while we part ways for a few seasons so, it is time to begin those goodbyes and thank you’s. So, thank you. Thank you for those picturesque movie moments that I couldn’t predict happening. Thank you for creating spaces all over for people to exist together. Thank you for shining your light on me. Thank you for bringing so much happiness into my life.
Even though it is nearly time to say goodbye, I know you will be back. Time might slow down and I will begin questioning when you will finally return but, my senses will know when you are near. My heart will skip a beat with excitement as the sun stays out just a little longer. The conversations will start to fill my calendar with trips, vacations, concerts, and events. The BBQ aroma will start hitting the air. Most importantly, that tingling sensation that the joy of summer is one day closer will catapult me on a victory run.
Oh summer, how I love you and I will miss you. But still, thank you. I am not going to say goodbye instead I’ll say l'hitraot, until next time.
L'hitraot, Summer 🩵
