UnPAUSE, one step at a time |

Dear Miyara tribe, Happy December! Can you believe we are in the last month of 2022? So, here is a question for you- Why does it have to take Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, and other celebrities to talk about it for us to pay attention? Yes, we are talking about Menopause (and then we have a random guy asking- what about male menopause?!). Well, jokes apart, it is important to start the conversation, to start talking about the M’s in our life – Menstruation and Menopause. Until we start talking about it at home, with friends, and in other places, it will be hard for us to prepare ourselves, and our society. We will just continue to suffer in silence. Women spend a third of their lives post-menopause, yet the topic is under-researched and underfunded. This is a systemic problem. Some studies in the US have shown that most medical schools and programs don’t teach aspiring physicians about menopause. 77.5% of GPs in the UK expressed that there is a need to improve training provided on menopause in medical school and GP training. At Miyara, we believe in talking about perimenopause and menopause at every opportunity we get. |

Podcast Feature We were therefore very excited to be invited as guests to the Narratives of Purpose podcast hosted by the fantastic Claire Murigande We talked about how Miyara got started, how menopause needs to be talked about in social and work settings (similar to pregnancy) and that these conversations must include men if we truly want to practice equality, inclusion, and diversity in workplaces! Don’t you agree? | | |

Conversation with a Gynecologist and a Personal trainer November was a delightful month for Team Miyara, with multiple interactive events spanning different audiences. In the second half of November, we hosted a webinar titled The life stage that no one talks about- Perimenopause with Dr. Tina Bernardi (a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics in Zurich) and Viviane Hoeger (personal trainer, pelvic floor specialist, and nutrition coach). Both experts beautifully complemented each other in suggesting different options available in the field to navigate a host of peri- and post-menopausal symptoms. Dr. Tina mentioned that a lot of her colleagues are not aware about perimenopause and when it starts. A good part of the discussion was particularly about pelvic floor health and incontinence issues, which are very common in midlife. However, it was great to hear them assure that these can be rectified in most cases with appropriate diagnosis and physiotherapy. |

Awareness in a women's leadership group In the final event, we were invited for a menopause awareness session among a group of corporate women who are part of the S.T.A.R. Leadership program at YasCoaching - Yasmina Rauber about #menopause and how it affects work life, family, and most importantly how to manage it. Another of our firsts! |

We talked about how menopause affects you at home, at work, and in social situations and ways to manage and navigate this life stage. |

While reaching out to new communities is rewarding, we also highly value the learnings from both our guests and attendees alike. Some of the information was indeed eye-opening! We are truly grateful for and humbled by the response we have received from both ends for the change we are trying to make. These conversations have bolstered our aspiration to normalize conversations on menopause anywhere and everywhere- amongst doctors, families, and at workplaces, communities and organizations. Isn’t it how it should be? Would you like to enable this conversation in your community, workplace or network? Send an email to contact@miyarahealth.com or send a Whatsapp message to +91 6366 291 668 In the spirit of conversations, we have scheduled the second edition of TIME to UNPAUSE with Miyara, which will be focused on incontinence. Join us with your cuppa for a chat in a safe, non-judgmental, confidential, and respectful space. From our experience, we have gained a lot more from these interactions with fellow women than we had imagined. We hope every one of you will join us and benefit from our collective knowledge! Till next time, Kind regards, The Miyara Team |
