So many people who come to the Centre talk about the “feel” they have as soon as they walk through the front door. They mention that life just seems to slow down a bit when they’re at the Centre. The staff and the Board of Directors work hard to continue providing this feeling of quiet and peace to our patrons.
Here are a few thoughts we shared about this month’s core value:
* The building keeps out so much of the noise which helps establish a sense of silence
* It’s important to be greeted quietly when we enter the Centre to remind us to be quiet ourselves
* We are all accountable to the silence of the Centre – we have to tone down our energy when we enter the building in order to appreciate the gentle atmosphere
* There are “levels” of silence
* It’s a gift to be silent and to reflect
* This is the core of what we do at the Centre
* This is a place to reflect on what’s really important, to rest a bit and to enjoy the silence.
We also spoke about the fact that so many people do not seem to enjoy “silence”. Perhaps it’s because many have become accustomed to always being busy doing one thing or another. One of the most surprising gifts people tend to find at the Centre is that once they experience the silence at the Centre they are attracted to come back to get more of the reflection, rest and silence the Centre offers through a wide variety of ways.
