Demand for blood in Switzerland

Donated blood is needed every day to provide the blood products vital to people who are sick or injured. Blood transfusions are essential for the effective treatment of many illnesses and injuries. In Switzerland, around 760 units of donated blood are needed each day to meet the medical needs of cancer patients, accident victims and people with a blood disease. Yet, only 2.5 percent of the Swiss population donate blood on a regular basis.
