May Work-in-Progress Lunch |
For the May work-in-progress talk, Dr. Kent Leach gave a brief summary of his lab's work. While many of his projects have roots in bone tissue engineering, some more recent ones focus on applying established strategies to other areas including cartilage, cardiovascular, muscular, and nerve tissue engineering. Thank you to the BESA social chairs, Hark and Brent, for hosting the event! |

BESA Outreach: Animal Shelter |
"A group of six BESA volunteers helped clean and organize equipment at the animal shelter in Woodland. We enjoyed ourselves and even had some extra time to say hello to some lovely dogs. We hope to make this a recurring outreach event!" - Emmet Francis |
For the May coffee hour, a small group was joined by Dr. Crystal Ripplinger and Dr. Eleonora Grandi and learned about both of their academic trajectories and research interests. The majority of the conversation, however, was an engaging discussion about gender disparity in STEM, particularly in conference settings, and how to combat it. Thank you to all who participated! |
