PASTORAL PAGE MISSIONS - COMMISSION OR OMISSION? by Mr Lim Eng Missions is not an optional extra to the plethora of church programmes. Missions is intricately interwoven into the redemptive script of the Gospel story. It is meant to be lived out by us, as followers of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. The clarion charge of our Lord: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations….” (Matthew 28:19) and “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you” (John 20:21) is loud and clear. According to John Piper, “Missions exists because worship doesn’t.” We the church, individually and corporately, must be the engine to fulfil the Great Commission and not be lulled into regrettable omission! Against this backdrop, we launched the EquipAsia (EA) Programme in 2017. EA’s intent is to............ Read More > |

PRIVATE GIVING FRAMEWORK Thank you for giving generously to the church so that we have been able to incorporate official outreach and missions projects as part of our annual budget. However, on some occasions, we do require additional funding for unexpected and unforeseen needs of these ministries. These needs are usually made known by respective Ministry Staff and/or members of the Leadership Team who are overseeing these ministries. In view of the introduction of the Anti-Money Laundering and Fraud Prevention (AMLFP) regulatory framework, the church has put in place several measures to ensure that we comply with provisions of the framework: a. All official requests for additional funding must be done in writing and submitted to the Missions Board/Church Council for review; b. The Missions Board/Church Council will review these requests on a case-by-case basis and provide its decision in writing; and c. If approval has been obtained, all remittances must be routed through the church and all transactions must be managed and properly recorded by the church Finance Team. We are aware that from time-to-time, individuals (including Ministry Staff and members of the Leadership Teams) may, in their private capacities, initiate private funding requests for varied needs of ministries which they are involved in. Whilst the church does not discourage private fund-raising efforts, under the AMLFP framework, it cannot be party to any arrangements pertaining to the handling of remittances and routing of payments – this will have to be managed privately by the individuals involved. You are encouraged to carry out your own due diligence and exercise discernment if you are considering giving to these private fund-raising efforts. In order to maintain a high degree of accountability, we have also reminded Ministry Staff and the Leadership Teams to be mindful of the potential for misperception as a result of their official roles. As such, we have cautioned that they must make every effort to segregate their official and personal roles, especially when it comes to fund-raising. Please feel free to approach the Church Council if you require any clarification. Church Council and Missions Board |

SCE SEMINAR: HARD QUESTIONS FROM JOSHUA 3 August 2024 (Saturday) 9am-12nn Peace Sanctuary (Level 3, CBC) Dr Philip Satterthwaite As we resume our sermon series on Joshua, some hard questions from our study of the first half of the book remain: 1. How do we reconcile God’s command to annihilate the Canaanites in light of his love and desire for all to come to repentance? 2. Are we to take the records of miracles in Joshua (e.g., crossing the Jordan, the sun standing still) literally? 3. Can and should Joshua be applied to the Israel-Hamas situation today? Join us as Dr Philip Satterthwaite attempts to answer these and other questions we have of Joshua. Dr Satterthwaite taught at the Biblical Graduate School of Theology (BGST) lecturing on Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew, and was the Principal of BGST from 2011 to 2019. He is now Lecturer Emeritus having retired from BGST in June 2022. He is a member of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. Please sign up for this session here: https://forms.gle/ACRSx5sP7vag4hjd9 The session will be recorded and the video recording shared thereafter. If you have questions, please contact Ps Lim Wei-en at weien@biblechurch.sg. |
