Sturgis South Motorcycle Rally Returns

August 2022 - For almost 20 years August in Sturgis has meant one thing: The motorcycle rally is coming!

Now that August is just about over that means so to is the Rally. That is until August of next year.

On the third weekend of August the Town of Sturgis transforms. For three days bikers join the locals and the excitement begins. The Rally brings thousands of bikers in each year and in its own way has put Sturgis on the map. Many that visit us each August would never stop in Sturgis or would have even heard of our town if not for the Rally.

While some locals would be pleased for the Rally to quietly disappear, that one weekend each month not only brings visitors who would otherwise simply pass through our town, but it also brings much needed revenue to the town.

Admittedly, the Rally isn't a huge money maker, but it does help. With a town our size even a small increase in tax revenue makes a big difference. These outside visitors not only spend money with the Rally vendors, they shop at our local businesses as well. So for one weekend each year we will continue to invite our guests to come visit and show them the warm and hospitable town we all love.

Rally Recap

August 18-20, 2022- The Sturgis South 2022 Motorcycle Rally had something for everyone. Starting Thursday and ending at midnight Saturday the three day event was jam packed with entertainment options for all ages.

Thursday morning the Sturgis Public Library kicked off the event with a special edition of Story Time titled "Strollers, Bikes & Trikes." The kids met at the park and had a blast parading around the pavilion. Activities continued Thursday afternoon with vendors and bikers arriving. Friday West Elementary held a transportation parade and invited the community to come out to watch the kids show off their own modes of transportation. Then later that afternoon the much anticipated dinner ride returned. Bikers lined up at 3:30 before hitting the road at 4:00. This year's dinner ride was free thanks to the support of our sponsors. Bikes left from the park riding to Starkville and Louisville before returning back to Sturgis for their free BBQ dinner plate. Saturday also featured a sound and bike show as well as biker games. Each day there were free concerts in the park, tethered hot air balloon rides, and a kid zone complete with jumpers and a petting zoo on Saturday.
