The Redemption of Simone Biles |
Simone Biles aka the G.OA.T. spoke up for herself, about the well-being of her mental health at The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Yes, America was shocked at her sudden decision to exit from the competition. Now we can have our opinion, on what Simone should have done or not as a participant in the Olympic Competition. However at the end of the day, what matters most is Simone's courage to speak up for herself and protect her mental psyche. After Simone’s announcement, I observed her to be relieved of any inside or outside pressures. |
During the competition Simone was all smiles as she became a cheerleader and assistant coach for the gymnastic team. Simone’s Balance Beam revealed to us her resilience as she earned a bronze medal for her routine. Congratulations Simone! |

Growing up as a child, I can remember my mother cleaning our home and playing Aretha Franklin’s album on our phonograph stereo. Yep a stereo playing a vinyl record! The entire album was literally a dance session. We would dance and sing all Saturday morning! By the way Until You Come Back To Me was a family favorite. |
Let’s rewind, with Aretha “Re-Re” Franklin’s biopic film featuring Jennifer Hudson. Can we just say, “There is going to be some singing in this film!” Ms. Aretha’s songs speak volumes of her life challenges, love life, triumphs, and her spiritual connection to God. |
Like Jennifer Hudson and the rest of the world, I am a huge fan of Aretha Franklin, and I love every song she sings in my playlist. With the new movie “Respect,” I am so excited to see Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, who was hand picked by Ms. Franklin, to play the role of herself. |
Let us not forget Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo who portrayed Aretha Franklin in “Genius” was an outstanding performance. Erivo’s smooth vocals and talented acting paid homage to the Queen of Soul we all know and love. As a fan of Aretha Franklin, her music always brings me to a happy place from my childhood. Her music made my mother happy to sing and dance. Perhaps seeing how her music brought joy to my mother, Ms. Aretha’s music is definitely a generational legacy from my mother to me. Thus, from me to my grand-daughter Camryn. |
Ms. Aretha’s music reflects feelings and emotions I can relate to help me overcome my life issues and my spiritual connection to God. I will always continue to sing her songs, learn her music on the piano, and dance to her music when I am cleaning my own home. |

Meditation is an important investment for creating a safe space to relieve stress. Meditating only takes a few minutes in our day and a quiet place to focus on breathing techniques. Also meditation builds virtues such as patience, kindness, focusing, and relaxation. |

“Respect” has all you could imagine in a musical biopic. It is a well-written story, has great songs, and, most of all, it has Jennifer Hudson in the lead role who can belt out Ms. Franklin's masterpiece songs. Take your mother, granny, aunts, sisters, and cousin to see this amazing film! |

Allyson Felix Queen of Track & Field |
All hail Queen Allyson who with her gold and bronze medals became the all-time medal winner in Track and Field in these Olympic games. In her typical fashion Allyson Felix she did it her way with pure class. After winning a bronze medal in the 400 meters, Allyson then went out and helped the US Women win a gold medal in the 1600 meter relay. What makes her triumph even sweeter is how she stood toe to toe with shoe giant Nike. |
After Allyson gave birth to her now 2 year old daughter Camryn, Nike who was her sponsor at the time proposed to cut her pay by a whooping 70% and would not guarantee not to punish her for performing at the same level before she was pregnant. Well, Allyson had the last laugh it turns out, as not only did she stop wearing Nike’s but she won her medals at these Olympics in her own shoes that she created called Sayash. |
As Allyson said in her post race interview, “I’ve never been the fastest, or had the world records, I’ve always just tried my best with character and integrity.” Well said Allyson and thank you for being such a shining light. |

A Message from DoV Club Founder |

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 Revelation |
As I reflect on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the opening ceremony event showcased many nations coming together to compete for the GOLD TITLE 🥇.I observed a plethora of people from many countries who are from my African descent with unique features and skin tones. Watching the Parade of Nations during the Olympic Ceremony, made me realize the world is so big yet so small. |
Watching the different competitions and in amazement looking at the features of the women and men from the various countries such as Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic, Africa, Panama, and Cuba I immediately began to visualize myself traveling to these countries. |
While watching The Tokyo Olympics I’ve come to learn, I need to open up my mindset and travel more. There is a world out there that is waiting to meet me! Seriously unafraid to do this! Bucket List! In addition, The Parade of Nations gave me insight on God’s creativity of human people on this planet we call Earth. If God our Father created Mother Earth, then we should enjoy the journey called life on Earth. With the Covid-19 Pandemic being in the forefront yet, getting vaccinated, perhaps traveling abroad will come sooner than later for me! After watching the Tokyo Olympics, I have realized I need to travel because there are people to see, people to meet, and places to go! Remember If you’re going to fly the friendly skies like me, ✈️ remember the Covid-19 safety traveling protocols and ENJOY YOUR LIFE! 💜 |
