Slice of Life
When she came home with her new, sparkly ring and smiling fiance, we were over-the-moon for our daughter. Just to set expectations, though, we told them right away what kind of wedding we could afford: simple.
And that's just how we did it.
We rented the church hall and had the reception there after the wedding in the sanctuary. The meal was potluck. The flowers, arranged by a friend with several dozen roses from Costco. Music provided by family members and an online music service.
Dress: Goodwill.
Shoes and veil: online vendors.
Table decorations and souvenirs: the dollar store.
Lighting: strings of white Christmas lights
Cake: Costco sheet cake converted to two tiers and re-frosted.
Several friends got together and gave clean-up services as their wedding gift.
Our big spend was a week at a bed and breakfast in the country for their honeymoon.
The wedding was fun! Family, friends and community came together to help, which made them feel needed. Like they had a purpose.
People need to have a purpose.
So in a way, our daughter's simple wedding helped all of us.
