President's Message

Welcome back to the 2020-2021 School Year! Even though I am retired, I still think a new year begins the month of September. At this time, it appears we will not be meeting at the Red Lion for our lunch meeting and program the month of September. If this is still our circumstance in October, watch for our meeting and program in a Zoom conference. We are in the process of planning our programs for the rest of the year; obviously, our lives and meetings are in flux.

Active members - Watch for Mini Grant applications. If you are a member of CDSRA, you will receive an application in the mail. A mini grant gives you the opportunity to apply for up to $200 to utilize with students. For those of you still working with students, we wish you a safe and productive year.

- Kriss Crilly, CDSRA President

Meet Our Patrick T. Hobin State Award Winners:

Joann Lewis & Sharon Salley

CDSRA Board Members, Sharon and Joann, were presented with this award at the 2020 WSSRA Zoom Convention in June.

"These upbeat, dedicated, fun-loving women are the ultimate volunteers... Their passion for our goals is contagious and we are so proud to have them as part of our local unit and state organization." (Quotes from the application)

They are currently serving CDSRA as our membership committee.

Meet The Board

District 12 Legistlative News

Due to the COVID Emergency, the Legislature is going to be cutting programs to raise the needed funding. Therefore, the WSSRA goals this year will be to protect our current benefits. Our Medicare subsidy ($183 a month) and COLA ($62.50 a month) are HIGH RISK for elimination or budget cuts!

We will need all the help we can get in the legislature to protect these benefits! It’s crucial that we support our PAC and be ready to work with our legislative committee.

When the time comes, we will need YOU to contact Legislators!

CDSRA State Legislative Committee:

Denise Perkins (509-884-8587) and Mary Perkins (509-884-7671)

The Pandemic Hasn't Stopped CDSRA From Helping Others

  • $3,000 to Cascade School District to set up internet for online learning in remote areas of the district (See article in WSSRA Journal!)
  • $1,000 to Wenatchee Valley Museum for virtual field trips
  • $1,000 to Small Miracles for summer lunch program
  • $150 to Cashmere Museum and Pioneer Village
  • $2,500 to Serve Wenatchee Valley  - “Clothes 4 The Classroom” (outfitting approx. 100 students!)

Programs that Still Need Your Help:
Since WSSRA & WSSR were unable to meet in person at the yearly convention, they were unable to hold their biggest fundraisers for the year for the Foundation (scholarships) or the Political Action Committee (PAC).  Please consider making a donation to both funds.

To Donate:

  • PAC – It’s an election year so we need funds NOW! We need to support legislators who will protect our current benefits. Send donations to: Lora Brabrant – 125 W. 11th St. –Port Angeles, WA 98362-7708 or go to wssr-pac.org to make an electronic contribution.

Need more info? See page 7 in the current WSSRA journal or call Mary Perkins at 509-884-7671

  • Foundation – There is a Foundation Donation form on page 8 of the WSSRA Journal or go to the WSSRA Website to make an online donation (scroll down on page for donation form link).

Your PEBB Insurance Options Are Changing!

PEBB Health Insurance or Medicare Eligible Retirees will be offering several new plans this year. The HealthCare Authority needs to save money so the plans will be quite different from our usual UMP Classic Medicare Plan. When the new plans, benefits and costs are announced EACH of us needs to take time to assess current and future needs and choose the plan which will best fulfill our needs.

To help you to understand and make your decision, the following programs will be posted on our website: chelan-douglas-sra.org

  1. Plan information
  2. WSSRA zoom meeting. Date announced on website.
  3. Question & Answer Zoom Meeting for CDSRA
