The JAZZ.FM91 International Jazz Safari to Cuba sold out quickly so we’re adding more trips. January 8th - 15th will be a smaller than usual safari with just 20 guests… And the following week January 15th - 22nd we will be in Havana during the Havana Jazz Festival and will allow a slightly larger group of donors.

Lorenzo DiGianfelice and I have been having a blast creating new music that will be released over the next 6 months. We will play some new recordings over dinner 7-8pm and then the live music begins with The Tiki Collective. (Michael Davison (vibes), George Koller (bass), Eric St-Laurent (guitar), Great Bob Scott (drums), Alison Young (sax) and Bill McBirnie (flute). And signers include: Genevieve Marentette, Irene Torres, Jocelyn Barth, June Garber, Heather Luckhart and more.

 

This “Tiki” concert will feature a few favourite songs from The Tiki Collective “Muse” Album but will also introduce new songs including James Bond soundtracks, Brian Eno tunes and some InstraMental classics. 

 

John Finley will take to the stage at 9:30 for a one hour set of soul, jazz and r&b. His new album (produced by Lou Pomanti) is just about finished!

I’m off to JazzFest Berlin October 28th but I’m thrilled to hit my favourite annual “zombie bash”at The Opera House. Subspace (Craig Galbraith) and Rue Morgue (Rod Gudino) team up again to produce the best Halloween Party of the season. I will be the emcee for the Costume Contest with $1000 in prizes. (I’m grateful that the crowd does the judging.) Every year I think the best costumes in the city can be found at this one party. Tickets are $30, and VIP tickets are $100.

Jaymz Bee’s Swing Dance Party at Palais Royale 

Starring Colin Hunter & The Starlight Orchestra

Tickets: $40 advance $50 door ($20 for students) 

 

Last April, Colin Hunter and his favourite big band blew away a packed house. Some dancers stayed on the floor for four hours! This venue is where it all started in Toronto. Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington all played at Palais Royale. It’s a timeless venue and attracts swing dancers of all ages. Tickets are half price for students. All the money from the door goes to JAZZ.FM91.
