Eva's February News

Greetings!

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through February.

January was a big month for me in kicking off the year reflecting on my goals and dreams, and putting out a number of offerings.

I led the following group experiences:

  • 2 time management workshops, one in partnership with Prospera, and one with my own networks.

  • 1 workshop about applying community organizing principles to managing with care in the workplace.

  • 1 social justice book club kickoff meeting.

  • 2 community gift circles (see my writing on gift circles).

  • 1 drum circle for a group who had never touched a drum before!

  • Marching and singing for justice with the Thrive Street Choir at the Anti Police Terror Project MLK Day march, co-leading our monthly song circle, and showing up at the rally for Tyre Nichols.

  • 1 visioning session for the Kol: Jewish Music Across The Diaspora retreat, which we hope to put on annually, as it was such a blast this first year. (If you’re in the Bay Area, save the date for this April 16th- a day-long Kol community music gathering).

I had a lot of fun designing and leading the time workshops. I learned a lot about how everyone has different and complex relationships with the topic of time, and was happy that people came away with concrete ways to practice- as one of my participants wrote- “holistic time management - setting goals in other areas of my life and allocation time every day to make progress on those goals.”  If you’d like to access the recording and materials from this workshop (for a small donation), let me know.

I also had a great experience with the management workshop because it allowed me to reflect on my learnings from my years as a full time community organizer, and apply it to workplaces more generally and how people can bring in human elements. If you’d like to access the recording and materials from this workshop, let me know.

I worked with clients individually on the following topics:

  • Clarifying one’s core skills and interests and searching for aligned work

  • Reflecting on what has and hasn’t worked well in a job, and applying those lessons moving forward

  • Moving mindfully towards retirement

  • Incorporating play and magic into one’s busy life

  • Designing a custom weekly Shabbat ritual

  • Learning from past relationships

I also had the beautiful experience of participating in a local Oakland course, Dare to be Powerful, led by amazing activist Penny Rosenwasser. The material was eye-opening for me regarding how internalized anti-Semitism & misogyny affects me and so many others, and how I can empower my leadership & activism amidst challenging times. I recommend her book here.

Tonight, I kick off my first group coaching cohort, Turning Passion Into Action! We’ll be meeting in person in a yoga studio in Berkeley. I’m really looking forward to building connections amongst this special group of people, and supporting people to grow their impact in the world while aligning with their values and passions.

I’m still running a fundraiser for a community member who has gotten out of prison and returned to the Bay Area this week after fifty years. He's a wonderful intelligent man who has lots of potential to get back on his feet and give back to the community. If you feel compelled to chip in, that would be wonderful!

Next week, I’ll be taking my Coactive Coach Training certification exam, which is a long time coming and a very exciting moment for me. I’ll let you know when I (hopefully) pass and am able to celebrate this next phase of my coaching journey!

On a personal note, after all the going outward energy of January, February has been a time of intimate focus with my family. A week ago, my step father, David Harris, died. He was an incredible man, activist, author, father, friend, and long-time partner to my mama. I am going through the windy road of loss, supporting my family through their grief, and moving forward as I attempt to honor his beautiful legacy.

Thank you for reading and staying in touch.

With love,

Eva
