This is a perfect opportunity to make your voice heard in regards to the priorities that you feel are effecting our Melrose Village Neighborhood.

Information from MCWNC Public Notice:

"Here's your chance to ask questions directly to our Assemblymember Richard Bloom!  Please have your questions prepared in advance of the meeting so we can make the most out of the Assemblymember’s visit.

If you click beyond the bio, you can see the legislation he has sponsored (everything from plastic bans to expansion of parental rights for LGBT+ couples), the issues he has prioritized (affordable housing and climate initiatives), and the committees he serves on (many, including one focused on The State of Hate and our 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games)."

Neighborhood Groups join with CD5, Melrose BID, MCW Zone Rep & C-PAB members to tackle Melrose crime issues

As you know, MelroseVillage.org along with Melrosa Action are working on the issue of a better and safer Melrose.  Several zoom meetings have already taken place.  Some of the meetings we have had produced better results than others but we keep on trying and not just to provide lip service to the problem. On July 27th we had one of those meetings.  It again was attended by our CD5 Field Deputy from Koretz’s office, the public relations person from the Melrose BID, our LAPD community relations officer, our Zone 2 rep from the Mid-City West Neighborhood Council and about 20 members of the public that are residents and business owners.  What came out of this meeting were 2 things: 1) core problems on Melrose were identified and agreed upon, and 2) actionable ideas that can begin to be put into place. These ideas will coordinate no less than 10 different City of L.A. and State of California departments and agencies.  To put blame on any one group or Councilmember is shortsighted and everyone reading our emails that attended the meeting heard the numerous reasons why.  Realistically, we won’t solve this overnight, it takes time to coordinate City and State resources for one area, especially when you can look at the entire City and see all sorts of problems everywhere.  If you want to stay informed or get involved you can attend a C-PAB meeting or attend the Aug 17th MCW Public Safety Meeting, calendar link: https://www.midcitywest.org/public-safety and become part of solution.

What Types of Stores do you want to see on Melrose?

Part of our effort to improve the experience of wanting to come and shop on Melrose includes reimagining the types of stores YOU would like to see on the street.  What's YOUR opinion? The answers will be shared with leasing agents and the Melrose BID to help promote a safer and friendlier Melrose shopping experience for neighbors and guests that come to our area.

Neighbors have to deal with massive new electronic billboard at Melrose and Spaulding.  PLUC Committee missed this one!

Here's a great reason to attend a Mid-City West NC PLUC meeting. PLUC stands for "Planning and Land Use Committee" meeting.  How would you like to have this massive electronic billboard in the picture below located at Spaulding Ave and Melrose shining into your living room or bedroom all night long?  The original plan was most likely reviewed long ago by the PLUC committee before being approved by the City Building and Safety department.  This could have been prevented!  Now the residents affected by this need to fight to fix it.

Could part of the reason for this failure be that the members of the PLUC committee do not half to have any formal training in building and safety?  Could the hard working volunteers that make up the PLUC committee easily get taken advantage of by developers that just answer the questions of "how much affordable housing does this project have" and "how many parking spaces can you convert into another livable unit instead of leaving it for a parking space so we can solve the housing crisis"?  Then the electronic billboard and what ever other quality of life issue or noise issue that the project may create becomes secondary and may just get hidden away from PLUC.  Is this really how it works? We're not sure!  But you can get involved by writing an email to the committee chair and find out what he knows.

If you have a code enforcement of construction problem that you want brought to light like this one, start by emailing the PLUC committee chair for advice and you can also take the issue to the City of L.A. Building and Safety Complaints.

City of L.A. Code Enforcement Complaints can be filed here:

https://www.ladbs.org/services/core-services/code-enforcement

Email for the MCWNC PLUC committee chair is: dschoorl@midcitywest.org

WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE MCW COUNCIL TO ACT ON THIS: A Melrose Village Neighborhood Alliance member suggested to MCW President, Lauren Nichols that we should have a zoom meeting to discuss the issue of Building Density Bonuses. The idea is to have the meeting chaired by advocates on both sides of this issue. If you support this, please email lnichols@midcitywest.org and make your voice heard.

Melrose BID Crime Prevention Meeting

This meeting is usually held on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m.

You need to email kim@urbanlegendpr.com to get on the list and receive the zoom link details.  The next meeting is July 13th due to the July 4th holiday.

This is an opportunity to speak directly to the people who help shape Melrose Ave.Get on the list!

We have brought this up before, but feel it's worth mentioning again...

What brought you to sign up for our newsletters?  We want to believe it is because you wish to learn what's going on and to participate in advocating for a safer and cleaner neighborhood. Most of you who receive this email live in Zone 2 or are affected by what happens on Melrose.  This newsletter contains links to the meetings to sign up for the Melrose BID Crime meeting, most of the Mid City West Neighborhood Council meetings and the LAPD C-PAB meeting.

Here's the important part:  Neither the Melrose Bid or the MCWNC meetings have neighbors, referred to as 'stakeholders' attend very often.  Most of the sub-committees for MCWNC have NO 'stakeholders' attend.  So what happens when elected representatives get no input from those they are voted to represent?  They go off and turn their attention to their own pet projects instead of advocating for the people and the neighborhoods they serve!

So PLEASE get involved!  If you find a meeting topic in the list above that you are interested in and if you can attend just ONE meeting to make a comment or offer support to someone making comment, it will make a difference!  Tell them you are part of The Melrose Village Neighborhood Alliance!
