CARTA EN ESPAÑOL

The Unmistakable Marks of the Mature Christian

“When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things” (1 Corinthians 13:11, NLT). There are different levels of Christian growth, and we always have the option to grow from one level to another.

WE ARE CHALLENGED TO GROW AND MATURE

Hebrews 6:1 encourages us to “leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity”. The Holy Spirit in us makes this possible.

 -------------------------------------

How do we become mature Christians?

God has given us everything to be godly believers: “We have received all of this by coming to know him”

(2 Peter 1:3)

Our maturity is based on God’s promises:

“He has given us great and precious promises . . . that enable you to share his divine nature”

(1 Peter 1:4)

We can live a lifestyle of growth:

“Make every effort to respond to God’s promises. . . to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen” (1 Peter 1:5,10)

We are able to face suffering with joy:

“When troubles . . . come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy . . . . When your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow” (James 1:2,3)

We are called to be doers of Scripture, not only readers:

“If you look carefully into the perfect law . . . and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it”

(James 1:25)

The way we speak shows our level of maturity:

“If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless”

(James 1:26)

God has made us bold, not fearful:

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love”

(1 John 4:18)

As Christians, we should commit ourselves to continual growth,

until we reach the stature of the fullness of Christ.
