A Note from the Director

How is your holiday shopping going? Are you making a list and checking it twice? Or have you had gifts wrapped and ready to go since September?! Personally, I still have a lot of buying to do, but my list is pretty set. I’m also super lucky to work in an art gallery and have great presents and holiday décor at my fingertips! I have already purchased the 2022 ornament created by Cara O’Brien (I buy the new one each year!) and am deciding which wood-turned bowl by Ed Elsey I want to purchase for my parents. If you’re trying to pick out the perfect present for someone on your list, take a look at our Holiday Shopping Guide for some great ideas!

Looking forward to the new year, we are very excited for the first exhibition of 2023: Studio Art Showcase. This exhibit will feature artwork created by ACWL-Nuveen teachers and students, so if that describes you, please read through this entry form. We’d love to display your work! Speaking of YOU, we’re also hoping to pump up our volunteer roster as we head into 2023 and have various committees that need some additional help. If you’re interested in getting more involved, check out this article.

We’re also busy scheduling classes for the 2023 winter session. My hope is to have everything lined up before we close for the holidays, so stay tuned! We don’t host a lot of classes in December, since folks are usually pretty busy, but we do have a Quick Sketch: People class with MJ Ernst next Tuesday and our monthly SPARK! session for people with dementia and their caregivers on Wednesday, December 21 at the Playhouse at White Lake.

Also, one last note for the month as we wrap up 2022 and you consider your end of the year tax-deductible donations –Events & Marketing Coordinator – Ian Martin, created a fantastic video spelling out the reasons to give to the ACWL-Nuveen. The video features our outstanding volunteers and teachers communicating beautifully how the ACWL-Nuveen enhances the cultural life of the White Lake and the greater West Michigan community.

I hope you have a great holiday season!

See you soon,

Erin Peyer
