It's been a busy summer so far at Haven Homes of Detroit, and there is a whole lot more coming in August! After so many months of slowly moving forward, it suddenly seems like things are speeding up as our dreams of having women in the house in 2022 looks like it can be a reality!! Read on to learn what's been going on with our renovations, fundraising, and getting our program ready the women who will live at our house |

This shell of a house is turning into a home! Aaron recently finished a flip house for Axe and Hammer, so he's been working full time at Haven Homes. In addition to his hard work, we had 22 people join us for our Volunteer Days a few weeks ago and got a lot accomplished. All of the rough construction has passed inspection, drywall was delivered today, electric is getting set up for basic service, and we should have water into the house (aka a toilet and sink!) by August 8! Stay tuned for August's reno updates and check social media and the website for ongoing updates: we have windows the first week of Aug, siding the 2nd week, drywall the 3rd week, and final electricity the end of the month. Check out a collage of the work done during our Volunteer Days! It was amazing to see all the work done in 2 days with everybody's combined effort. If you were hoping to help but weren't able to make it in July, we'll be having another Volunteer Days the end of August to help with painting. | | |

Raising funds and awareness for Haven Homes of Detroit The end of June was our First Annual Golf Outing, and we had the most successful day! We had 75 golfers, 9 corporate sponsors, and about 10 volunteers; we ended up raising just over $11,000 for a new porch which will be rebuilt this fall. The biggest thank you to those who joined us for such a fun day!! In the last 15 months you all have donated $142,000 to Haven Homes of Detroit! We feel confident that our fundraising goal of $200,000 will be correct, and we're hoping to find a donor (or more!) that would be willing to match donations in the fall as we wrap up renovation fundraising and finish the house. If you, your family, or business is interested in making a large donation that could be our match fund, please reach out to us! Please consider ways that you can share the word about Haven Homes of Detroit as we continue to build a support system that we know will be important to running our house later this year! |

Designing a program to support women The primary goal for Haven Homes of Detroit is going to be shifting in August from all about renovations to how we are designing our support program for women once they move in. Lori Spiker, one of our board members, and Kristen are heading to Nashville in August for a 2-day conference at Thistle Farms to learn how they run their program, and will be the basis for our program at HHD. We are also continuing to network with other like-minded organizations in the metro-Detroit area as we build a network of partners to work with the women at the house. We are also working with our board to think through the timing of hiring a house parent and how we will fund a full time employee. This is such an exciting transition for us! We love the renovation project, but Haven Homes of Detroit is about people, and we are excited to be able to think about the next phase of this project. |
