A Letter from our National President

Dear Sisters,

It is with much excitement that we write to you today to share an update about our philanthropy focus.

A Philanthropy Task Force was formed over a year ago to take a strategic look at our national philanthropic focus, and to make recommendations to National Council about next steps.  The task force gathered ideas, collected feedback via surveys from the membership, researched potential partnerships and evaluated the success and engagement with the Kindly Hearts Campaign. Time and again we heard from our members that they want to volunteer locally and make positive impact in their communities. Feedback provided by our members via surveys was overwhelming supportive of service in the area of underserved children and youth.

After much thoughtful deliberation, the Task Force presented its findings and recommendation to National Council.  National Council agreed not only with their conclusions, but that the Task Force had indeed found a great philanthropy focus for our Sisterhood. Our new philanthropy focus will be supporting children experiencing foster care or homelessness through the Kindly Hearts Initiative.

Alpha Xi Delta’s Kindly Hearts Campaign was created to support our communities through pandemic relief. Many powerful stories came out of this campaign that were uniquely Alpha Xi Delta’s. Because these words so eloquently describe Alpha Xi Delta’s heart for philanthropy and service, we felt it was important to carry on the important name that had been created for the 2021-2022 academic year into the next chapter of the Fraternity’s philanthropic focus. Knowing a campaign is typically short-term, we have rebranded this focus as The Kindly Hearts Initiative. This name will serve as the umbrella to our philanthropic focus on supporting children experience foster care or homelessness. It is not an organization for which money will be raised. As we begin emerging from the pandemic, we turn our focus, not our hearts, elsewhere.

Over 400,000 children are currently placed in foster care and every year an estimated 4.2 million youth experience homelessness. The need for support is real. Alpha Xi Delta believes that all children deserve love and support. Children and youth experiencing foster care or homelessness do not always have access to the foundational needs that will help them realize their potential. Alpha Xi Delta is dedicated to aiding organizations who provide access to these needs and support resources in our local communities and across the country.

WHO WILL WE SUPPORT?

Key Impact Organizations

We will not support one primary partner organization like we have in the past. Key impact organizations making a national or regional difference under the umbrella of our focus are being finalized and will be shared during the education sessions.

Local Chapters and Associations

Local Chapters and Associations will have the ability to collaborate with local impact organizations that support children experiencing foster care or homelessness. Details on the organization selection and approval process will be shared during the education sessions.

HOW WILL THE KINDLY HEARTS INITIATIVE WORK?We will accomplish our goal of creating more access to needs and resources for children and youth experiencing homelessness or foster care through three pillars:

National Impact Campaign

The entire membership will work on this fundraising and awareness campaign at the same time for a true national impact that would allow us to tell Alpha Xi Delta’s story of connection to our philanthropy focus. For continuity, we know how impactful Letters of Love has been for collegiate and alumnae members alike. This letter-writing campaign will benefit our key impact organizations.

Signature Chapter Fundraising Events

Chapters across the country have a wonderful history in hosting their AmaXIng Challenge events. Because these events are signature fundraising, connection, and exposure opportunities specific to Alpha Xi Delta, we will continue encouraging college chapters to host these campus-based events.

Localized Service

We want to make a measurable impact both nationally and locally. Chapters and associations are encouraged to find an organization(s) in their community to collaborate with for service opportunities. Service could be individually based or chapter/association wide projects. Project ideas and toolkits are being developed to provide best practices for impactful localized service. A process for finding and approving a local organization will be shared by July.

We chose May 3 to make this announcement because it is National Foster Care Awareness Day and the month of May is National Foster Care Awareness Month. We encourage you to share the social media posts from the Fraternity on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter on your social media channels so we can consistently amplify our announcement and messaging.

The National Foster Care Month website through Children’s Bureau has many great resources and a toolkit to raise awareness on National Foster Care Day and during National Foster Care Month.

Thank you so much to everyone who provided feedback during this time, and a HUGE thank you to the members of the Philanthropy Task Force. This was not a small undertaking, and we are so appreciative of the thorough research and passion that went into determining this next step of our Sisterhood. If you have any questions about this announcement, please email fhq@alphaxidelta.org. Your question will be directed to the appropriate person.

Fraternally,

Becky Perrett

CASA de Esperanza de los Ninos and AXiD

Alpha Xi Delta's National Philanthropy  is called the "Kindly Hearts Initiative (KHI)." Our Collegiate Chapters and Alumnae Associations across the nation are creating project plans within one or more of the following areas of focus: supporting students, food insecurity, and basic needs shortages.

Houston has selected CASA de Esperanza de los Ninos which strives to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect for at-risk infants, children and their families by providing comprehensive residential and family support programs that transform people and communities.

We look forward to volunteering together!

Founders Day 2022

On April 10th Houston alumnae gathered at Brennan’s of Houston to celebrate Founders’ Day for the first time in 3 years!

THANK YOU to Amanda Golembieski for putting this beautiful, traditional event together!

The HAPA & HAPF Annual Scholarship Luncheon

Forward in Friendship

On May 5th sisters joined the Panhellenic community at the Junior League of Houston for HAPA/HAPF's annual scholarship luncheon and to celebrate AXiD-Delta Psi scholarship winner, McKenna Callahan.  McKenna serves the Texas State chapter as its president.  Her mother, Jill Westbrook Callahan is a Delta Psi alum! They are pictured here with Delta Psi alumna Allyson Howard Johnstone.

AxiD sisters attended the recent NWHCAP Bingo night. And a fun time was had by all!
NorthWest Harris County Alumnae Panhellenic holds an annual Bingo night in an effort to raise funds for their scholarship program.

It's time to sign up for HAPA/HAPF Committees!

There are 13 committees to choose from…please let Ivonne Delgado know if you would like to participate. Feel free to ask her questions about any committee responsibilities and expectations. All have chairs so by signing up your only responsibility would be as an integral committee member!
