October is usually a month for cleanup and getting ready for NaNoWriMo. But this year is a bit different. I've been working on my annual writing schedule and saw that there was a bit more space in it. After forcing a sixth book into the schedule (with only needing 20 double chapter writing days to keep up with it), I worked to get ahead enough this year that I'll have 22 extra days this month. That's more than enough to get an extra Cary Simms book in before November. So, instead of doing 2 Cary Simms books starting in December, I'll be writing Cary Simms: The Final Testament starting on the 9th. This is the third book in the Cary Simms series, and the reason why the series is looking to be more than likely 24 books long instead of 17.
Originally, Cary Simms was meant to be 8 books long, similar to Harry Potter. But when I was writing The Fairy Mushroom Forest, I had far too much plot that happened near the beginning of the school year. Because of that, I knew the first book would wrap up around Thanksgiving of their first school year. Rather than skipping over half the year, I ended up writing The Lost Yule Log for their Spring semester. And as I put forth ideas for each year, it was pretty easy to put together enough of them for at least 2 books per year.
When I started putting together my thoughts for the third book in the series, I found something similar happening, with the first 9 chapters all happening on the same day. It was all obvious plot that needed to happen, and flowed easily from where we left off at the end of The Lost Yule Log. Since I'm targeting 30 chapters per book, that was a third of the book right there. It wasn't long after that when I realized where the story would go from there.
With Cary being religious, but recently embracing the Archangel Michael's Version of the bible, she'll be wanting to find a new church in the human realm that follows it as well. This branches out the world a little, showing how magical communities on Earth relate to the magical realm and each other. But when Cary finds a group her age that she seems to fit in with, she soon realizes that, once again, things aren't always as they seem.
Look for Cary Simms: The Final Testament some time next year.
