When William Collins marries Charlotte Lucas, he thinks he’s found the perfect minsters’ wife: domestic, pious, and submissive. Little does he know, his new bride has a mind of her own and a desire to serve those cast off from the community, the “women of the night”. Charlotte’s efforts to redeem them invokes the anger of their patroness, who threatens William’s clergy position if he cannot convince Charlotte to end her scandalous connection. Their marriage is pushed to the limit as Charlotte continues to pursue her cause, refusing to give up the fight. Worse still are the schemes of the wicked brothel owner, who will stop at nothing to keep the source of his profits- the harlots- under his control. In a small town beset by prejudice, hypocrisy, and vice, it will take compassion, love, and the power of faith to rescue Charlotte's friends from the clutches of evil and restore Charlotte and William’s marriage. |

Hopefully in Nebraska, people will welcome any trained teacher--even one who cannot speak. She fits all the requirements outlined by Milly Crenshaw, the matchmaker. The man in Nebraska is a perfect match. She hopes. Will her surly groom send her back on the first train east when he realizes Sookie is silent? And who is the man who shadows her every movement in her new hometown? Suddenly, Sookie's silence stands in her way of both happiness and safety.

Cupids and Cowboys, Book 2 Raised by a stepfather in Knight’s Ferry in the California foothills, once Cole reached adulthood, he found work on a local cattle ranch in the San Joaquin Valley. Now in his mid-twenties and living in a region where men still significantly outnumber women, he doesn’t give much thought to the prospect of marriage and family. Then again, he does not take into account one Lucy Barker who, at seven years of age, feels it is her mission to see her sister, Amelia, married to someone Lucy thinks is handsome and will be a good big brother for her. Amelia Barker, whose father involves himself with local and state politics as much as his cattle ranch, worries she might not have much choice in the man she weds. After already witnessing one of her friends married off as a political pawn, she fears she might suffer the same fate. Contrary to her parent’s wishes, she spends more time on her horse roaming their ranch and the surrounding foothills than she does pursuing “womanly” activities that would please her mother. From afar, she has watched her father’s cowhands work the family spread. One in particular has caught her eye, but she doubts anything can come of her interest in him. Then again, she does not count on her sister, Lucy. | | |
