Choosing to live slowly in a fast paced world

Choosing to live slowly in this fast-paced world can be a big decision, one that Daniel and I had to face two years back.. I was in the corporate and he had been in corporate and hospitality industry we both knew it was not the kind of life we wanted, with the hustle and bustle came a rude awakening that we were just moving through the motions of life .. we also started drifting apart and neglected slowness and a quality of family life we knew we wanted completely.. it all became real when we were on the brink of getting a divorce..

We knew we needed to change our lifestyle but had no idea where to start... after weeks of reconciliation , soul searching and praying we broke it down piece by piece, first with slowing down then with our finances, our time and our purpose. Turns out Daniel had always had green fingers we just never noticed, well.. kindof, I remember our  little apartment in Brazil with a tiny balcony FULL of potplants and his interest in shoots and soil and farming in general..

It was perfect! Super slow, economical and full of purpose!

Choosing a slow life didn't come easy and maybe alot of people still wont understand our lifestyle but that's okay, we are on our own path and choosing whats best for us and our families and sharing the journey.

Some things that helped us live our version of the best quality of life

Getting out of the corporate life and taking risks with our dreams - It just wasn't for us and I have to admit I hated it , I didn't want to climb any corporate ladder, my eyesight was getting bad and being in a room filled with air conditioned air all day and no sunlight depressed me.. I am basically a barefoot, sun loving hippy that enjoys having control over my time. the thought of a two week break a year was the saddest thing..

Family over everything - Now we don't make monitory or status decisions , we say no to anything that affects our time with our family and we are proud to say that our family life is exactly the quality we could only dream of , we spend 5 days a week together , take care of our farm and home life together. The change we have experience since you cannot put a price on, we spend mornings together without having to rush anywhere , have daily fun with our boys and Daniel and I haven't been closer!

Cutting costs - By cutting I mean living within your means, analyzing your budget and not overspending, it was hard adjusting to the first year I wont lie!

Learning to say NO - Learning to say no will hurt at first. It will hurt you and it will hurt others. If people have become accustomed to you being the yes person then this might sting the first few times. You may even lose a few friends, but at the end of the day, you will be thankful for the time you’ve gained back in your busy schedule. We have had to say no so many times but with each no we say yes to what is most important to us.

In the age of speed I began to think, nothing can be more invigorating than going slow.. In an age of distraction nothing could be more luxurious than paying attention and in an age of constant movement nothing is more urgent than sitting still.
