NZ Booklovers Award 2020 shortlist - congratulations to Kirsty Powell

The Strength of Eggshells by Kirsty Powell has been shortlisted for the NZ Booklovers Award for Best Adult Fiction Book 2020.

Karen McMillan - one of the competition judges, says of The Strength of Eggshells "None of us could believe this was a debut novel."

Have a listen to this recording on RNZ National, which also discusses the "strength" of the NZ independent publishing scene.

Featured here, ninety-three year old Muriel talks to author Kirsty Powell about her novel The Strength of Eggshells outside the the Angel Louise Cafe in Raetihi. Muriel appears in the book as her fifteen year old self delivering post to the last settlers in the Mangapuru Valley. She loved the book and her reminiscences about life in the valley helped Kirsty give authenticity to her writing.
