AUTUMN News

Dear

We are super excited to have launched our new website click the image to check it out.

WOVEN THREADS UPDATE

You may remember in March we suggested you watch this space and save the date for June 12th, unfortunately due to COVID-19 our event has been cancelled. We had an exciting panel organised as part of VIVID Ideas, which like many other events this year has been postponed. Not to worry we have plans in the pipeline for October, by then we will all hopefully be healthy and free to attend events in groups.

We are fortunate enough to be able to continue working through this period of isolation, so we are hard at it with Series two, we have an episode underway in the animation studio and we are working on partnerships and connections within the mental health space and the government.

POSITIVE APPOINTMENT

It was great to see the Federal governments appointment of Associate Professor Ruth Vine as the first Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Mental Health. Lifeline Australia's Chairman, John Brogden had this to say;

“With the appointment of a Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Mental Health today, the Australian Government has elevated mental health along-side physical health priorities at pinnacle of health policy in the nation. Lifeline welcome’s the appointment and commends Prime Minister Morrison and Health Minister Hunt for Appointing Associate Professor Ruth Vine as our nation’s first Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Mental Health.”  This is only one of the many initiatives that government as put into place to assist with the challenges of COVID- 19.

STATE GOVERNMENTS

The state governments have summed up their responses according to the particular needs of their constituents. In April Gladys Berejiklian and Bronnie Taylor Minster for Health NSW announced  $73 million to support mental wellness during COVID-19.

In Victoria a $59.7 million mental health support package was announced, making it easier for young people to access mental health support. Orygen was given $6 million to scale up its online mental health platform and increase beds in north-west Victoria. "Orygen’s executive director Professor Patrick McGorry said COVID-19 had expedited the need for innovative strategies that adapt and extend mental health care."
