Justin T. Chafin Memorial Scholarship is MSU's Newest Endowed Scholarship On October 5th, what would have been Justin’s 31st birthday, the Chafin family presented a check to the Morehead State University Foundation indicating that the Justin T. Chafin Memorial Scholarship at Morehead State University is now fully endowed. Two years ago, the Chafin Family formed the Justin T. Chafin Memorial Foundation to accomplish a couple of things: (1) to bring some positivity out of what has been a very tragic event for everyone who knew and loved Justin, and (2) to ensure that, although Justin had physically left us, he would never be forgotten. So the JTC Memorial Foundation established three scholarships in his name: one at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, a second at the Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy at Shenandoah University, and a third at Morehead State University. It’s no secret that Justin loved the city of Morehead. Justin loved Morehead State University. Justin loved his brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon (and a few amazing SigEp Sweethearts too). From the start, the Chafin Family and many of the JTC Memorial contributors knew that if they were going to to truly honor Justin through the JTC Memorial Foundation, they had to take care of Morehead State's SigEp Scholarship first. Now, starting in the fall of 2019, the scholarship carrying Brother Chafin's name will be awarded each semester to a MSU student that upholds the ideals of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. From this endowed scholarship, Justin’s name and Morehead State will forever be linked. And that’s exactly how he would have wanted it. The Chafin family is very grateful to all the supporters, the many SigEp Brothers who contributed, to all companies, families, groups, and other individuals for making the endowed scholarship possible. | | Homecoming at the House An Update & News (Oct.19 & Oct. 20) Our Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) has been given approval from Sigma Phi Epsilon Headquarters to host events at our chapter house on Friday and Saturday evenings of Homecoming from 5 p.m. - 1 a.m. To comply with the new national policy we have had dedicated volunteers work with local partners to get a licensed, insured, third-party provider (Reno's) for alcohol sales. The major new change for Homecoming at the house from prior years is that for us to comply with the policy, outside alcohol will not be permitted at the chapter house which includes the chapter grounds. | | |

| | Let's Burn the Mortgage! After several decades, several houses, and over 1,000 brothers, KyZ is on the cusp of a huge milestone, paying off the mortgage. By raising $25,000 since our 45th and by Andrew Gillette securing $8,000 from our Chapter Investment Fund with HQ, we're so close to killing this thing off we can taste the Homecoming mortgage smoke on our tongues. One alumnus, has challenged us to match his $1,800 so we can pay it off fully by Homecoming. If we raise $1,800, we will burn the mortgage on Saturday night. Click the fire above or the box below to learn more or help out. | | |

| | Ky Z Volunteers Needed Our nationally recognized Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) is looking for a few good folks to assist us on the board of directors, as officers, as mentors, and as key volunteers. To sign-up or learn more about being on the AVC Board, email Jason Marion, Chris Haid, or Andrew Gillette by October 6th. Over the decade, our AVC has won all but one AVC Operations Award for our SigEp District. We've got a great group and we get to work with some great young men. We need board members and volunteers. especially in areas like financial management and planning, accounting, and home improvement. We are also always looking for chapter mentors. | | |

| | SigEp Founders' Lounge May Happen in ADUC Earlier this year, Brothers Bill Phelps and Quentin Hatfield concluded that as we approach our 50th, the legacy of our Kentucky Zeta Founders ought be memorialized for the indelible impact of this exceptional group of men on the campus, over 1,000 young men, and countless communities beyond. Brother Bill Phelps was approached by the university about getting together $50,000 for an endowed SigEp Founders' Scholarship Fund to award annually to selected upperclassmen who uphold the principles of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. In exchange for this fundraising, an incredible space at the entry point of a gorgeous new ADUC ballroom will be named in honor of our founders when we secure $50,000 in gifts or pledges. The space will be in the upper corner of ADUC that is the focus of the rendition viewed above. The space includes a view over Fields Lawn. Due to early gifts and pledges, including the sale of many Greek bricks, over $20,000 has already been raised. Once $50K is secured, the SigEp Founders' Lounge will be one of the most attractive named spaces in the renovated ADUC. All gifts for this effort are tax-deductible. To contribute, joining Bill, Q, and many others in realizing this noble vision, contact Brother D. Ray Gillum or go online to the MSU Giving Page and make a gift for 'other' and indicate "SigEp Founders' Scholarship." Too see more pictures of the soon-to-be fully renovated ADUC click the button below. Tours will be available of ADUC at Homecoming. Thank you Brothers Phelps and Hatfield! This bond will never sever. | | |

| | Some other news at KyZ There's always something happening with Kentucky Zeta. We want to be able to continue to share more good news, but we are always in the need of a few good volunteers. Volunteers help organize lake retreats or co-sponsor leadership meetings with the chapter. Volunteering gives you a good excuse to just get back to Morehead and maybe even back to Lockegee Rock. We are always in need of alumni board members to serve monthly on phone calls or to spend time with our guys at the Carlson Leadership Academy in Atlanta in the winter. It's a good time to be active with Kentucky Zeta. Your chapter found out at the beginning of this fall semester that they were again top in grades with a 3.18 GPA in the Spring. The next closest fraternity was a 3.02. The chapter does amazing work with local food pantries every week and still has exciting social events. Your most recent AVC President, Brother Andrew Gillette, was selected by headquarters to a post with the national fraternity. As AVC President, Brother Gillette was instrumental in securing $8,000 from HQ for taking a big bite out of the remaining little bit on the mortgage. We're blessed to have great brothers, a great chapter, and great momentum. We are blessed to have an awesome chapter counselor, Jeffrey Liles. As SigEp's, we're blessed to have an awesome purpose and calling in this life. | | |
