Upcoming Events

Our forcibly displaced mothers have gone through immense hardships and challenges to ensure their children’s safety and well-being. This Mother’s Day, let us all take a moment to reflect on the resilience and strength of our new neighbors and show our appreciation for all that they do for their families and the community. Please join us for food from around the world, Nepali dancing, music, and networking with our new neighbors.

April's Activities

Happy Financial Literacy Month!

This April we celebrated Financial Literacy Month at the WoW office. We had multiple workshops teaching valuable skills such as credit repair and loan tips, advice for first-time homebuyers, and funding for small businesses. Thank you to our generous community partners that supported these workshops.

Financial literacy truly helps our clients to reach their goals. By teaching a better understanding of how to budget and save money, we strive to help women create plans that set expectations, hold them accountable to their finances, and set a course for achieving seemingly unachievable goals. When our clients are equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage money effectively, they can become more empowered, confident, and self-reliant in the world around them.

Building Bridges of Philanthropy

WoW was excited to attend a Building Bridges of Philanthropy seminar this month! This workshop focused on “bridging” the gap between non-profits and the world of philanthropy. They talked through trust-based philanthropy skills and learned insights, tips, and tricks focusing on topics such as grant-making to relationship-building amongst donors. We were honored to learn alongside some incredible philanthropists and non-profit leaders throughout the state of Utah.

Staff Repotting Party

The WoW staff celebrated the start of spring this month by coming together and repotting all of WoW's office plants during lunch. In addition to the health and creativity benefits that office plants bring, workspaces that incorporate natural elements have a 15% higher well-being score and a 6% higher productivity than employees whose offices don't include natural elements. We aim to make our office a safe and positive place and we couldn't do it without all our office plants!

New Employees

The WoW team is expanding! We are excited to announce two new Case Managers to our team this month.

Setayesh is originally from Afghanistan and moved to Salt Lake City last year from California. She has experience working as Case Manager, security officer, and also in the service industry. She is currently working on her GED for US diploma equivalency and speaks over 5 languages. Setayesh is also talented in crocheting, teaching English, sewing, and cooking. She has a passion for supporting women from her own country and from around the world!

Yaël mostly grew up in Paris, France, and was raised in a multicultural French and Afro-Caribbean family. She is a self-taught English speaker, knows Spanish, and loves sustainable fashion, gastronomy, and sightseeing. With a degree in Computer Science and Online Communications and another in Journalism, she worked as a writer in the Tech and Travel industries before moving to the US in 2019, where she started building experience in the Customer Experience field. Throughout her polyvalent career, Yaël developed a passion for working closely with people from all backgrounds.

New Board Members

WoW recently also welcomed two new incredible members to our advisory board.

My Nguyen is a Vice President at Morgan Stanley in the Credit Risk department. At Morgan Stanley, My is also the Co-Chair for the Salt Lake Asian Employee Network and a champion for the recruiting efforts for the regional office. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, My spent much of her career at Goldman Sachs. Besides being involved with Women of the World, she is currently serving on the board of the Utah Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Annual Asian Festival planning committee. She is passionate about giving back to the community. She was one of the Honorees for the 2022 Utah Business 40 under 40.

Outside of her day job at Morgan Stanley and board responsibilities, My is also a competitive weightlifter and powerlifter. She holds multiple powerlifting records in the state of Utah for her weight class.

When she is not working or lifting, My enjoys traveling, cuisines, hiking, and spending time with family, friends, and her 4 pets (1 dog and 3 cats).

My is a proud Vietnamese and BYU graduate

Elyse is the Head of Strategy for TIAA’s Corporate Communications division. She also has extensive experience as a global Human Resources leader, having spent the first 15 years of her career as an HR professional at institutions including Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity and the Federal Reserve Bank. A native Chicagoan, Elyse graduated from New York University (NYU) and has lived in Spain, Cambodia, and cities across the US before settling in Park City, UT.  Elyse is an avid skier and competitive equestrian.

Elyse is active in several community organizations including currently serving on the Jewish Family Services Marketing and Messaging Committee and is a member of the Women’s Giving Fund of Park City. Formerly she served as a founding junior board member of EGBOK, a Cambodia-based social services organization dedicated to educating and training underprivileged young adults to be future hospitality leaders. She also served as a volunteer consultant for the City of Chicago’s Animal Care and Control division. There she provided strategies for improving live release rates and facilitated the transfer of thousands of animals significantly reducing dog and companion animal euthanasia rates across Chicagoland. She continues to remain active in the local animal rescue and welfare community.

Sincerely,
