“A sailing program serving Pittsburgh area high school students and others”
NEWSLETTER AT A GLANCE:Planning for the 2023 high school sailing season is underway with registration opening on February 1st, and inclusion in an upcoming Carnegie Science Center exhibit.
Registration for the 2023 PPSL high school sailing season will open on February 1st. This is our third year of high school sailing. Increased interest is anticipated, so Pittsburgh area high school students interested in learning how to sail should register early.
A PPSL display on sailing will be included at a February 11 opening of a new Carnegie Science Center exhibit on the Vikings.
Donations of the US Sailing Association publication "Learn Sailing Right" keep coming in. Please see the Amazon Charity link below to purchase one or more books for donation to the PPSL sailing program.
Individual donors and corporate sponsors put "The Wind in our Sails". This makes it possible to provide sailing opportunities for young men and women in Pittsburgh area high schools. Almost all of our student sailors have never been on a sailboat before. Please see the contribution links at the bottom of this newsletter and consider making a donation to support high school sailing in Pittsburgh. And also check out the link below for a video on the PPSL sailing program.
High school sailing registration opens February 1st
This year will mark our third year of high school sailing. It seems that just yesterday our RS Quest sailboats were delivered and assembled by a team of volunteers.
Program changes planned for the 2023 sailing season include a slight increase in registration fees and a new half-season registration option. The preseason program will begin in mid-April with plans to be on the water by mid-May.
With a number of returning sailors and growing interest, we recommend that Pittsburgh area high school students interested in learning how to sail should register soon. Registration forms are available on our website.Register | Point of Pittsburgh Sailing League
PPSL display to be included in the opening of the Carnegie Science Center Viking Exhibit on February 11th
We were very excited when Carnegie Science Center reached out to the Point of Pittsburgh Sailing League to participate and provide a display on sailing at the February 11th opening of the exhibit, Vikings, Warriors of the North Sea. The CSC exhibit will include a replica of a Viking long ship.
Board member Geoff Wells and Chairman Joe Kirk will be at the PPSL display on February 11th. A video on our sailing program, promotional literature and an interactive sailing simulator will be included. The simulator will be used in our pre-season program. Please make plans to see the CSC Viking Exhibit on February 11th and stop by our table to say hello.
