Secret Summer
August has been like a fire this year. I hope you have been in a cool, calm place these last weeks of summer summer. I say summer summer, because the summer still has a few weeks left before we tick over into Fall officially. Our culture defines summer as the days when schools are on vacation. School busses are rolling and college kids are back at school.
Summer Summer ends and rolls into what I call this Secret Summer, but in the energy calendar, it's called Indian Summer or the 5th season. The weather starts to drop the humidity and the skies clear to a beautiful blue. The mornings start with a bit of a chill and warm to an inviting temp that makes you want to be outside breathing deeply. The evenings bring out light sweaters...perfect for walking. I love Secret Summer.
Secret Summer is related to the energy of the Stomach and the Spleen. It is the energy of taking the Fire Yang energy of Summer to the earthy Yin of the coming Fall. It's a good time to reground, reorganize and prepare for settling into the Yin months of the year. So maybe this next week is a good week for considering what you need to organize for the quieter times ahead.
As you know, I am in a life change. I have been using space between teaching yoga full time to working in the corporate world full time to reorganize my office and home for the new schedule and focus. I have been sitting with the melange of feelings that come from letting go and opening up to the unknown. It's both exciting and sad. I feel like a big oak tree in Vermont. Leaves are changing and falling away, but I'm still here. There are a lot of rings in this tree and I look forward to continued growth, change and more rings and leaves. I have to remind myself that change is exciting and uncertainty brings about wonder and interest.
So Secret Summer is a time to tend to ourselves and find nourishment and nurturing. It's a time to tend to our roots and prepare for the continuous change that rolls with the seasons. My teacher Cyndi reminds us constantly that self care is really self caring - not a one off we do occasionally for ourselves when we think we deserve it, but more like a way of living - baking into our days and weeks time for reflection, exercise, nourishment and fun. I am so happy that I can enjoy live music outside this Secret Summer. It does my soul so much good. What does your soul good these days? Take some more.
So like the tree, I am still here. I am teaching a smaller selection of classes and private sessions. September will look like a trimmed down version of the way passes used to look. I anticipate I will codify the passes for October and going forward. I need to see how September goes with my new work schedule and class attendance. Because I am only offering one Live Stream class a week, the 5 and 10 class passes are going away as they cannot be fulfilled any longer. If you attend the Ashtanga Live Stream, please purchase a 3 class pass from now on. You will have 30 days to use those three classes.
If you want to do On Demand classes - those passes will stay the same - a week, a month or drop in.
If you want to attend In Person classes - at the Cultural Center or on Zoom, please purchase the In Person passes - all month or drop in. You must let me know you plan to zoom at least 3 hours before class is scheduled to start so I am prepared to zoom.
Questions? I know this is a lot of change. You can contact me at AndreaDyerYoga@gmail.com if you need clarification on any of this. Please bear with me as I will have a slower turn around on communications as I start my new job on Monday.
I appreciate your attention and your practice - always. I hope to see you soon!
Peace, Love and Rock and Roll,
Andrea
