On June 17, 2015, five clergy and four church members were mercilessly gunned down during Bible study by a 21-year-old white supremacist at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. In the wake of the devastation, the faith of the Emanuel Nine, their families, and the survivors illuminated the way: it would be by the amazing grace of God. Just hours after the massacre, the survivors displayed God’s unyielding love by telling the shooter that they forgave him. |

IN APPRECIATION To everyone who contributed to my birthday campaign for Saint James, thank you!! Together, you helped our church raise close to $1800.00, to God be the GLORY! The campaign will be live until this Sunday, so if you thought it was over, think again! I had a goal to reach $5,000.00 and I'm not tired yet! Again, thank you. |

SAINT JAMES GIVING DECLARATION 2 CORINTHIANS 9:6-8 6 Remember this: When I sow sparingly, I will also reap sparingly, and when I sow generously, I will also reap generously. 7 I will give what I have decided in my heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless me abundantly, so that in all things, at all times, having all that I need, I will abound in every good work. |

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popularity signifies a level of maturity and dignity in America long over due. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. Sensitized to the conditions and experiences of others, only then can we make significant and lasting improvements in our society. |

EVENTS & INFO TO REMEMBER |

The National Health Observances for June include: Alzheimer’s Disease and Brain Health, Safety, Sickle Cell Disease, and HIV Testing. Much information on all of these conditions can be found at https://health.gov/news/202105/june-national-health-observances-alzheimers-disease-sickle-cell-disease-hiv-testing-and-more June is National Alzheimers and Brain Awareness Month. As we know Alzheimers and other cognitive conditions affect many families in our congregations The Alzheimer's Association has a very comprehensive website at https://www.alz.org/abam/overview.asp. Memory Sunday will be on Sunday, June 14. More information will follow. The National Safety Council recognizes June as National Safety Month. There has been much focus on safety around the COVID19 pandemic, but safety in the workplace and in our homes and neighborhoods are concerns whether we are in a pandemic or not. Sickle Cell Awareness Day is sponsored on June 19 by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA) to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and the challenges that patients and their families face. As you know, Black people are affected disproportionately by Sickle Cell Disease so please use these resources from SCDAA to learn more about sickle cell disease. https://wepsicklecell.org/sinerge/shine-the-light/ National HIV Testing Day is on June 27 and is sponsored by HIV.gov. It is an opportunity to encourage people to get tested for HIV, know their status, and get linked to care and treatment. HIV is still a condition that affects Black people disproportionately. It is important for Black/African American people to know their HIV status so they can take medicine to treat HIV if they have the virus. Taking HIV medicine every day can make the viral load undetectable. People who get and keep an undetectable viral load (or remain virally suppressed) can stay healthy for many years and have effectively no risk of transmitting HIV to their sex partners. For more information see https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/testing/index.html. |
