Hello Seeds of Life donors and friends!
This is just a short update on our growing project for the Canadian
Foodgrains Bank this year.
Our 2019 crop is grain corn. Those of you who were part of our annual Farm
Day on June 10 will know that this past spring was very challenging for
farmers, and our Seeds of Life farm at Alberton was no exception. We had
very cold and wet weather throughout May and early June. Our clay soils
were unfit for planting until just a few days before the Farm Day, so we
were three to four weeks behind our normal planting date. Thanks to the hard
work of our farming partners Miller Farms, they got the crop in the ground
when many farms in our area were not planted at all!
What a difference the weather makes! This photo shows the crop on July 30.
Growing conditions since the first of July have been just about ideal, with
plenty of rain and heat...perfect corn growing weather, and we are on track
for at least an average crop and possibly a GREAT crop. We hope and pray for
God's blessing of good weather for the rest of the growing season.
We look forward to corn harvest this fall and to sending the proceeds of the
harvest and your donations to the Foodgrains Bank. We will be helping to
fund the overseas programs of our member churches as they work toward the
goal of ENDING HUNGER.
Thanks to our donors who provided the funds to pay for the materials to
plant and grow this crop to date. And thanks to our farming partners for
their donations of time and machines. If you have not already donated and
would like to do so to help with harvest expenses, please see the DONATE
page on our website www.seeds-of-life.ca.
