Our newsletter is changing a little. Not only are we going to show you what we have been working on and what is coming up, but we will also show you the coolest things we have found in tabletop gaming - from miniatures, board games wargames and RPG's and more. Five things at a time. |
What we have released We have been working hard to put out the much anticipated follow up to our Doomdivers skirmish miniatures game, and it is now out for your consumption. If you haven't checked these rules out yet, you really should. They are just about as streamlined as skirmish rules can get, and big multiplayer minis games are a blast at your local games club. |

Dive Harder is a more developed ruleset that is designed for your Doomdivers to face off against Bots, but it can be worked to use against any enemy you think of. We are thinking of using the rules to pull together some rebel human forces, which we can smash with the hammer of democracy! Freedom isn't a right, it's a privilege! We have also widened the starting weapon options and support cards your divers can choose from. Plus there are a bunch new missions with rules to work against bugs and vice versa. You can get the updated rules here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/doomdivers-2-107172367 Try it out and let us know how you go. Next up is a set of campaign rules titled Doomdivers III: A Good Day to Dive, so you can have fun linking your tabletop games together! |

What we are playing I cant say enough good things about Twilight Struggle. Many gamers will be wondering if I have been sleeping under a rock for the past 20 years. After all, Twilight Struggle was the #1 ranked game on Board Game Geek for a long time (I think it held the record), and even today some 19 years after release it still sits at #13. If you are like me and never really had a chance to give it a try, I highly recommend you consider it. It is a two player game that pits the USSR against the USA in a ideological battle for world domination. Players have a set of actions available and each turn they balance the cost doing what they want to do to further their goals, against intervening in geopolitical events as they take place across the globe. You have to be careful though, if you are the player that triggers nuclear war - you lose! |
What I love about this game is the more you play it, the more strategies unfold. The card mechanics keep the game fresh each time and there are also genuine moments of humour that come up throughout the game. There aren't many two player board games in my collection because I will usually play a miniatures game in that situation, but Twilight Struggle is a game I will play with anyone. Channel we are watching I have been watching a lot of stuff but what has caught my eye was this one box challenge by Malev Mini Painting. He is the designer of the awesome Demon Ship and Pit Lord games. It is fair to say he knows how to keep his game design tight! |
We also got talking and I have decided to join this one box game challenge. I have a few ideas in mind so watch this space. I have a box of miniatures incoming. I encourage you to check out Malev's video and see how he turned one box of convicts from Wargames Atlantic into a cool little miniatures game (and if you are a Hip Hop listener you can check out his lyrical work here). Keep it up Malev! |

What we are backing This week I discovered this cool roleplaying game - HârnWorld by Columbia Games - that sells itself as the most detailed fantasy RPG setting ever created. It was a bold claim, but it was worth a further delve. |
On closer inspection I found the game to be a realism focused medieval fantasy game that was also system agnostic. You can use any RPG system you like to play the game. This appealed to me, and I wanted to see how they manage the system agnostic design because I was considering similar plans for a Torch & Shield supplement. I am also a lover of gritty TTRPG's that keep the action grounded in the tension of life and death. As promised, the designers have invested a lot of energy into making their world come alive, creating lots of hooks for the GM. This particular campaign is for a sourcebook of information about the Kingdom of Crysiba, one of the lands within the world, but it also gives you the option to get the main setting book as an add on. Which I did. Bonus, you also get a cool novella about a Dwarven story, and I am partial to Dwarves. Click on either image to go to the Kickstarter! |

Minis we are painting With Torch & Shield fulfilment in full swing and the final touches being added to the Quest beta rules, we had earned some painting time. Like any good hobbyist we each have a backlog a mile long.... I went for some Clan Jade Falcon Battlemechs - I tried to mimic the cartoon from my childhood and I was quite happy with the result. |
